KeymasterExposures 2 seconds or longer. No other difficulty.
Thanks for the theme suggestion, olavf!

ParticipantThis seems like reason enough for me to finally purchase a ND filter. Can’t see coming up with much myself on this, but really looking forward to whatever you guys show up with.

ParticipantWhat if I’ve got something scanned that i don’t know how long the exposure was for? Should I just ditch it for this contest?
Photo in question:

Any kind of estimate for how long the exposure was?

cluuuuueless because it was taken with my cheapy little lomography camera where you just hold the button for as long as you want the exposure to be 😀

KeymasterMy guess, looking at the ambient lighting and candles, that it probably wasn’t 2 seconds, depending on your film speed.

ParticipantAre exactly 2 sec exposures OK for this? I just noticed it says greater than, and I shot a 2 sec one the other day that I was probably going to use…..

KeymasterGood question, sleeping–I have some in my list that are 2 seconds as well.

ParticipantHey everyone, long time no see (virtually speaking). I’ve been on the road for 4 out of the past 5 weeks (3 on business, 1 on spring break vacation) and so have had very little time for the contests. The good news from a photography standpoint is that I’ve now got lots of new material for any future snow/mountain/winter-themed contests (went skiing on vacation), one of which will appear tonight. 😉
It’s good to be back home for a while (hopefully). Looking forward to tonight’s contest…
P.S. Congrats on your recent first 1st, plamadude30k!

Eek, I didn’t notice that and I had a couple of 2s that I was considering too. Verdict?

ParticipantSince 2sec is a standard exposure, and the next up is generally 3.6(?-workng off memory), I’m cool with 2sec. I intended it to be 2sec or greater anyhow.
-edit: should we amend the description?

ParticipantI hope 2 seconds is good, I didnt think about it and set up a couple of shots as 2 seconds exposures.

Thanks, most appreciated. Also, travel is always awesome-that’s where most of my best photography comes from.
Also also, I’m staying away from star-related images this time-I feel like I should probably mix it up a bit after the stars contest (though I do have plenty of pictures of stars with exposure times much longer than 2 seconds). Both of my ideas for new pictures fell flat this week, so this’ll be an archive dive for me. Thankfully, I have a TON of good options.
Speaking of good options…
I’ve got these two pictures I’m trying to decide between:

and
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/FlZCy2pgLQj87166P_bS5g?feat=directlinkI’m leaning towards the second one, but I’m just not sure-which do you guys like better?

I’m staying away from ‘star’ shots also–but only because of the time of day and the length of exposure, in one image.
I think the first is a better lightning picture, but the 2nd is a better picture, with the addition of the observer being caught in frame. Not sure if the voters will notice, though. YMMV.
//I think this will be one of those ‘epic’ contests, IMHO. I hope so, at least.
