I printed my Guitar Triptych at 20×30 and hung it up in my living room, and I love it. Now if only I had the money for decent 20×30 frames with museum anti-glare glass…

That’s exactly how I felt in my first farktography contest! 🙂 Welcome.

Welcome to the fun. I hope you keep coming back for more fun. Your first entry is very nice.

Thank you! And thanks to whoever enabled voting for my first picture. In my hurry to submit, I forgot to…doh.
May 13, 2010 at 5:39 am #27409ElsinoreKeymasterNo worries, happens to all of us.

I have never printed out anything of mine on anything larger than A4 photopaper, and I am not sure if my 10 Megapixel 4/3 mount camera can go much larger without seeing a significant drop in picture quality.
Although I rather expected you to have giant bug porn prints all over your walls…May 13, 2010 at 8:40 am #27411ennuipoetParticipantElsinore:
Unless Intolerant Jerk is shooting with the Hubble there is no way that is his original shot.
It’s people like that what cause unrest! 😯

Agreed. You’d need Palomar to get that level of definition on earth (and that with seeing-correction software only). Furthur, such colors are not seen in space. Colors come in red, blue, green, and violet (and browns when dust is illuminated. All else violate rules of physics. Yellow? I call BS. Let him protest, tell me where the shot was taken, and I’ll see what I can get with my 11″ telescope. I trust with my Whirlpool Galaxy entry that you can see what can be done from earth without stacking images and altering colors.
May 13, 2010 at 11:38 am #27413ElsinoreKeymasterYeah, I was pretty skeptical it was his, though the smugmug account it’s coming from has several other astrophotos (not that that means anything). It’s possible he’s an astrophysicist (benefit of the doubt), and I’m a little reluctant to delete or disenvotinate too quickly before he’s had a chance to repond since I have no “proof” it either isn’t his or it’s stacked.
Could he pull off something like that with a single extremely long, filtered exposure on a telescope with good tracking?
May 13, 2010 at 11:59 am #27414ravnosticParticipantNot a chance, Elsinore. There’s no filter that will make yellow from red, green, or violet, and the level of detail is far superior to what you can get with even a 24 inch scope, even if it had the anti-blurring software that corrects for atmospheric distortion. Those nebular clouds are on the order of maybe an arc second in diameter, yet he’s got detail of 50 pixels across them. That’s unheard of from an Earthbound scope. I’ll poke around hubble and see if I can find it.
