ParticipantI have three record albums ready to go. Do not have the rust set up yet.

ParticipantDefinitely don’t want to go with a different specific theme that people would need notice for. I’s say the best options are to allow picture in picture stuff with the album stuff or to open the theme entirely for this week. Well, third option would be keep as is and let the chips fall where they may
I got nothing for this one, so I have no dog in this hunt. I am completely cool with the idea of an open theme just to keep my participation stats up.
PS: Picture in Picture, THAT I can do, I just couldn’t see buying something I would never use for a theme.

Given that I’m not going to be participating as I have nothing and am not planning on doing anything in the next 4.75 hours you can ignore me, but my vote is for the option I’ve left in.
There’s a lesson in here somewhere, and if we figure out what it is, we won’t end up with this angst next time a theme with such specificity and difficulty is proposed.

I agree.

KeymasterI’m fine with keeping it, but I still want a ruling (officially) on whether my example above is in the spirit of the theme or whether the theme must absolutely require music albums for the picture inside the picture. The basic wording of the theme talks about albums, however, you guys have been open to spirit of the theme exceptions before.
To Yugoboy’s point, I agree we need to learn from this. Thinking things through as far as our lower voting of late, I think we probably need to be more careful about themes that are too specific. Over the years there have been a few themes that generated quick interest and were kind of ‘teh new hotness’, but by the time we were ready to schedule it, the interest had waned. Some of that is almost certainly due to the long time between theme suggestion and theme scheduling, but some of it is also probably because people’s interests change. And sometimes we don’t think important details and requirements through until the theme is actually scheduled and we have to actually start planning what we’ll do for it. Other times people misread or simply interpret the theme very differently (I fell into the former camp on this one). So yeah…

I’m sorry, but I don’t like the idea of an “anything goes” theme. I’m sure we’d have some nice photos and all, but it becomes more of a gallery of random stuff than a Farktography theme IMO.
Look, I know this is a challenging theme … but I submitted it through the theme section and enough people voted for it then to get it hoppered. Its already been postponed once at my request … so I propose we go with the “picture in picture” idea as a compromise. If we have shitty participation and voting, so be it.

With this, and this not hucking rocks, I was out pretty much from the get go because of the specificity of it. I am not averse to buying props, but NYC vinyl isn’t all that cheap, and for me CD covers have always been too small. My rule is if you can’t de-seed your pot on it, you can’t use it in a photograph.

ParticipantThis is an uncomfortable position… The theme states, “Photos using album covers from records, CDs, tapes, 8-track, or 78’s to create an illusion”. If other photos were allowable, I think that decision would have to be made before this evening. Otherwise it is unfair.
That’s my opinion. I’m not married to it and won’t cry if the consensus goes the other way though.
btw – All of my LP’s are at Mopsy’s. I didn’t buy anything new. I printed a CD size cover, cut it out and glued it to a cut up cereal box. I did the same with an 11 x 11 inch “LP-size”.

Yes, but, and this is important, did you actually de-seed any cannabis on it? 😀

KeymasterIt’s fine…the wording is what it is. I’ll be scheduling hoppered stuff this evening.

ParticipantOh man I could go for a big fattie about now … stress city. Like U-man said, I’m uncomfortable having to make the call here.
I am still a liter this week, so I’ll see what the deal is later tonight. I am not about to shoot any new stuff–I suggested that as a compromise to open it up to those of you out there who could not do the original idea.

Not since about 20 years ago. I can’t speak for what Mopsy does with my albums though.
Aaaaaand will we hit 30 entries?
May 24, 2012 at 12:06 am #46448Pope_Larry_II
ParticipantWell, I entered. I’ll see what the voters think. As usual I was a tad outside the box on this one.

Well, when you get a positive answer to that side of the equation, I’ve got a copy of Cheech & Chong’s Big Bambu with the album-sized rolling paper still intact…
