KeymasterFreeze a moment in time within an image by using high shutter speeds to capture an object or objects in motion.
Who suggested this theme? Ohhhhhh Barra-Barra-Barracuda!

ParticipantPerfect timing. Planning on going to a criterium bicycle race this weekend with the intent on getting at least one shot for this theme. 🙂

ParticipantUmmm… are stills from motion pictures out of bounds for Farktography?
Not that I have any idea how well they might turn out.June 24, 2012 at 4:29 pm #47663

ParticipantIs the “freezing” limited to shutter speed, or is flash acceptable?
Here’s why I ask: http://webs.lanset.com/rcochran/flash/hss.html

ParticipantAs long as the subject is frozen in action, I’m cool with it. This example is a bit over processed for Farktography, but here’s one of my possibles:

1/1000 shutterI have a lot of other ideas that I need to get about the business of getting shot.

ParticipantGenerally speaking, yes.
I guess I’ll need to turn the knob to the picture of the sprinter instead of the picture of the movie camera.
Second question, can flash be used to freeze the motion as well, or is it just shutter speed that is allowed for this one?

I hope so because pretty much all my high speed pictures are done with flash not shutter speed

ParticipantI think I’m going to do a single subject this time (usually I try for a significant variety). I’m going through my baseball pics. I’m barely up to the 400s (file #s) and already have something like 30 possibilities…
I think I’m gonna need a longer week. 😉
(It’s a good problem to have, I know, but damn, this is work!)

ParticipantI’m thinking of trying to dig up some sports action photos since I don’t have a high speed flash rig (yet). I think that there will be a big contrast in entries this week which I’m looking forward to seeing.

ParticipantHere it is, my theme, and I’m digging through my archives. I had a few ideas for this theme, but none of them ever came to fruition. I’ve got a few possibles from my trip to the minor league baseball game last month, and some from the cycling critierium seen in my earlier post, and a few other possibles, just nothing that really stands out yet.
