Akimbotoo fessed up outright to being a first time farktographer, but was not, in fact the only Boobies player.
I’ve talked to your mom a few times, Kestrana… although I don’t know if the handle fits her or not, the photo submitted by ADHD Adult seems like the kind of thing she’d do.
If I think of her as thinking the way you do, photographically speaking, I wouldn’t entirely rule out zittlechick.
But I’ll place my small bet on ADHD Adult.
And if it was one of the others I mentioned, maybe I can get a sympathy internet as a condolence prize. =P
September 9, 2010 at 6:04 pm #31857Zero_ExponentParticipantA plea again to everyone that owes me your caption choices for the book (which is a lot of you), I’m bored and need something to work on that isn’t laundry.
Also my mommy played this week, +10 internets if you can figure out who she is.Someone whose name I don’t recognize, but probably has some photography chops … I’m gonna guess Liese?
September 9, 2010 at 7:02 pm #31858lokisbongParticipantMy guess is zittlechick.
September 9, 2010 at 7:02 pm #31859orionidParticipantOooh! Oooh! I know I know!
September 9, 2010 at 7:22 pm #31860ravnosticParticipantzincp, I had the opposite reaction–seemed like darned near anything was okay. But I’ve picked, I’ve scratchpaded, I’m now committed, for good or bad. The one I like will probably fail, the one I think will fail will probably do okay, and the one I’m just posting ‘because’ will surprise me. All is normal with the world…
I think I’m finally getting the voter thing. Early results show that the one I like (ceiling fan) is a fail, the one I thought would fail (sunset quadrangles) is doing okay, and the ‘just because’ one (yellow pages) is ranking quite highly. I took so many damned pictures of them yellow pages solely because it sat out all summer and I wasn’t going to waste mother nature’s work just because I couldn’t figure out a way to make a cool picture from it. I only posted it because it fit the theme.
However, ‘getting’ and ‘understanding’ are two totally separate things.
Had I taken this before the contest, I’d have used it instead:

(Just as well; it was taken for Forktography and I may use it there.)
September 9, 2010 at 7:31 pm #31861ravnosticParticipantOh, and it’s the back of a road sign at night, silhouetting some scrubby desert plant tines. Noticed it walking home from the bar last night, grabbed the camera and went back to take the shot. Yellow sodium vapor lighting.
September 9, 2010 at 10:44 pm #31862KestranaParticipantActually this isn’t the first week my mom played so the boobies won’t help you but this is the first week she posted more than one photo.

I like the colors of the sky, and the sils. of the branches, but I think I’d like it better if that pole wasn’t in there ( all together now, THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID ).
I had a real hard time choosing for this contest. Offbeat, odd, weird, strange …. these can all be compliments, in my book. I was looking forward to this one for awhile so that I could see what everyone else’s idea of “unusual” was – and you did not disappoint.
Here’s some that didn’t make the cut.
My second pic, “Shiney”, was shot looking straight up above some escalators at a convention center. There’s a metal ceiling and a bunch of brass tubes hanging down. I almost ended up using two more of the same subject. Here’s what it looks like with less flash :

And with no flash, taken earlier:

Yes that’s me in the green shirt and red shorts.
Most people who saw this guy would either run away or kill it ASAP:

I ran away to get my camera.
And THEN I killed it.
For the “blue balls” entry, the backgrond is my mom’s patio table, which is made of little cells of glass:

When I saw how you could kind of make out what was under the table in some of the cells, I went to her laundry room and grabbed two buckets, one red and one blue, as well as a big bottle of yellow detergent. I put it all under the table, and got this:

Her plastic patio chairs were worth a closer look too:

I was at this restaurant where they have a “star tree”. You pay two bucks and get to write a message on a star and hang it in the tree. I kept the Toonie, but had to capture that tree for posterity:

And finally, what I think is the best photo of a woman wrapping a banana in tinfoil that I have ever seen:

I too, like the rust. The textures and colors are beautiful. But I love the gas station light. The rays of light make it seem like the parallel lines on either side are curving away from the center.
September 10, 2010 at 1:49 am #31865QueenBeeParticipantGah I’ve got a broken image Elsinore. It says it was deleted. Do I have to repost? Is it worth it?
September 10, 2010 at 2:19 am #31866ElsinoreKeymasterI’ve restored it. Hosting probably just hiccuped. I love that shot, too, btw 🙂

Wooo! You’re the bestest!
Thanks 🙂 While the kids nap, I roam their house looking for toys and other interesting things to shoot.

Thanks. The problem with posting B’s for a theme like this is the oh-man-I-shoulda-posted-THAT-one feeling that you can get. The rust pic and the less macro fence pic I used for this theme were from the same day. I guess I chose the wrong one. 🙁 I still like the one I posted though.
New topic – I’m speechless about how well this guys understands light and people…

Whoah.

I think a lot of those photos are completely awesome. But. That site displayed one trick. I don’t know if he is a one-trick pony, but basically he was applying one lighting principle to all subjects: stark. It is a very … speaking way of lighting a human face, slightly less so but still evocative for a scene. Still, I think that emotion can be drawn with warmth as well. I’m left feeling like I saw one side of a coin, or two dimensions of a three dimensional object. Like I said, the photos are incredible… but they have elements that could be substituted for others to make an equally valid point, if you know what i mean. I’m sorry, I have the fucking hiccups and it’s hard for me to concentrate lol.
