ParticipantI wish I could “like” half this thread.
As far as camera porn, I don’t have a white sheet big enough for the “studio shot,” but here’s a smattering:

I usually use a 20×30 sheet of foamcore.

I’m sure you know that it’s not the size of the lens that matters – what matters is how creatively you use it.

//swears it’s just like that talk with dad when he was 14. 😥 *
We’ll see when the voting begins. I pulled two from the vault, which seemed artistic at the time I took them. I tried various ‘special effect’ type shots, but apparently need a tutor for such things. The one I created specifically for this contest I do like, and it’s creative and artistic (to me), but I don’t know how it will go with the voters, of course. Such is life. We takes our pictures and takes our chances.
*I do have a nice, albeit modest collection, of which I’m very fond of and manually stimulate often.

ParticipantWell I’m not sure exactly what constitutes “artistic” but I’m going to go with at least two that I have. One I think is artistic because of how it came out (different view than normal mostly, but it’s a good shot) and another one I thought of after rav mentioned something somewhere, I forget what though. I love it because it is a pattern that plays with the eyes. Hopefully, they are artistic enough. I tried Vaseline on plastic wrap on the lens (have no filters yet so couldn’t use those) but I’m not entirely satisfied with the results. I might get more inspired after looking at what is posted.

ParticipantWell I’m not sure exactly what constitutes “artistic”
“Something that is intended by the creator to produce an emotional response in the audience.” (Seems like as good a definition as any….)

ParticipantI’m not sure that I like this theme. It seems so vague, yet so specialized at the same time. Even after reading all the posts here I’m still at a loss as far as the difference between an “artistic” shot and any other beautiful eye popping photograph.
I’m not a filter person really. I use a UV filter sometimes on white subjects in direct sunlight and on AtOps subjects (sundogs and arcs etc.) It’s been a LONG time since I “set up” a shot for artful purposes. I hope my archive picks are…suitable.November 17, 2010 at 10:22 pm #34001Curious

and this is why i decided to fore go tonight’s contest. nothing i have really speaks to me in that way. and if not me then most likely not the voters either.

I had a hard time with tonight, I know what I wanted to submit

which I consider the most artistic work I’ve done. Unfortunately, it’s an HDR shot. What I went with was selected by a set of arbitrary criteria rather than the work which I think best represents the theme. But, hey, when it’s my theme I get to make the rules 😀

ParticipantI’m glad that I’m not the only one trying to figure out what to post. I think I have one maybe two that will fit, although I’m going to see what gets posted to see if that inspires me about one of my archived shots.

Oh, a thousand times this. The most important lens is the one attached to your head.
Youse guys made me dive deep into the archives of weirdness for this one.

ParticipantI went back a few years in my archives: All of the ones I picked, including the B-sides, were black and white. Not sure what that says….
