Good deal–are you talking about the distortion from the way the camera progressively scans during exposure? Cause I’ve seen some really cool stuff from those cameras. Also feeling the AE-1 love…my Dad left me an AE-1P, and it’s just a beautiful camera.

I just came in from shooting with my AE-1 given to me by my parents. It’s 30 years old, photographed me as kid, my High School graduation, my sister’s wedding (my first stint as a wedding photographer) and I can’t remember how many other things. If my house was on fire and I could grab one camera it would be the AE-1. (This of course could never happen because all my gear is constantly packed and in one place so if the house were on fire, I could grab it all at once and run…I also do this with the cats*, they hate sleeping in the little box but safety first!)

A TF friend recently sent me a Canon A-1 (the successor to the AE-1 IIRC) and a Junior 620, along with some really random stuff like a Minolta 16 (http://www.subclub.org/shop/minoltai.htm but a manly silver). I’ve really got to get off my butt and start using them.

My father-in-law gave me his old AV-1 last year (the aperture control version of the AE-1, right?). It’s built like a tank. I took it out the other day, and used a couple of shots in the last contest taken with it (and some for the upcoming Autumn one). There are some good FD lenses out there going cheap. I especially like the 100mm F2, as the bokeh is beautiful, but the standard 50mm F2 isn’t half bad either.

I’ve got to laugh. Can’t believe I’m new to Farktography, and everyone here has some AE love. Usually people look at me like I’m crazy. Always get the “get with the times” idiots.

I’ve since added another Land Camera, Zeiss 120 folder, Speed Graphic, and Argus brick. Someone’s sending me a Brownie Hawkeye Flash, too. I’m weeding them out to usable cameras, but that will only weed out 3 or 4 of what’s in there. My Evil Photography Twin still shoots black and white film exclusively. Develops it herself, too. Shoots a Mamiya and an AE-1P.

I’m not.

That really is quite some camera porn.
This “developing your own film” thing is something I definitely want to get into. However, I suspect it will lead to a “the wife killing me” thing.

Developing your own film is actually very easy. We do it in our bathroom. It takes about a half hour and doesn’t leave a mess (other than the negatives drying). I’m not a particularly technical person but I can do it and the sense of satisfaction from taking the picture to completion is really great.
