Participanti don’t think of myself as a prude but one of the nice things about fark is the censorship. if i want to read words you wouldn’t say in church or look at boobies there are places for that. but it’s also nice to have a place where that doesn’t happen. plus i tend to think it keeps the mentally and emotionally immature away. and the more rabid trolls.

You have to look at it from the Modmin’s P.O.V. if they start to blur the line a little bit and the next thing you know, it’s frickin’ 4chan in the thread. You, and I, and the rest of the regular Farktographers know where the line is and how not cross, the drunk ass moron at 3:3O AM who starts posting “art shots” of donkey porn because he saw a glimpse of boobie upthread not only doesn’t know where the line is, he wouldn’t know it if he tripped over it.
And it’s ALWAYS a he.
Yeah, this is why we can’t have nice things.

Well, I knew it was an iffy thing, and that’s why I asked first. That’s also why I put it in a small thumbnail here, so as not to potentially offend anyone here (I didn’t think it would, but I didn’t need to make it a large jpg, either).
Yeah, in an ideal world we’d all be adults, but that just doesn’t happen.

Participantennuipoet, I know what you’re saying, slippery slope and all that – I just find it strange that a site that started as a squirrel with balls is getting all sensitive about showing a little skin. It also seems a little unfair that the farktography thread seems to be held to a different standard than others. I’ve seen people put up some pretty risque stuff, and/or write some really sexuallly explicit posts. Maybe it gets quickly deleted and the posters get banned, I usually don’t check back later.

Stuff gets missed, people are human, yadda yadda yadda. And yes, stuff does get deleted and posters of NSFW and/or graphic content face consequences. However, there’s only one Farktography thread a week, and I’m the primary mod modding it, so I try very hard to keep consistent in applying the Fark rules as well as Farktography rules. That doesn’t always happen (stuff gets missed, I’m human, yadda yadda yadda), but there’s a concerted effort there.
FWIW, the specific problem with the boobs in SilverStag’s image is that it shows too much under boob. Essentially the only thing not showing is her nipples. A photo of a woman with pasties on wouldn’t (shouldn’t) fly on Fark either. Just because it covers the “naughtiest” of bits doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for a work place. There are lots of people who Fark from work, hence the need to be at least moderately SFW. There’s a line in the FArQ that speaks to this, saying that looking at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition at work would probably be frowned on in a lot of work places, even if it’s not showing completely naked wimmins, so merely covering nipples doesn’t make something SFW. It’s true that surfing non-work related sites in general would also be frowned on in a lot of places, but I think you get my point.
In the photos you posted above, the first one gets a pass because the shirt and kitten are covering a lot (though it’s borderline with the side boobage), but the photo is also cropped in such a way that at least at first glance with your boss walking in behind you, it doesn’t scream ‘HEY HERE ARE SOME TITS!’ The second one isn’t even showing cleavage, so it’s not in the same ballpark either way. Hope that helps clarify.

Edited to add: Unless your cell phone (e.g. an iPhone) is applying various filters that would otherwise not be acceptable.

I see what you’re saying and I agree with you about SilverStags‘s but I know Fark and I know a few Moderators who are prematurely graying due to being Fark Mod’s 🙂 The best comparison I can think of is cat herding.

I edited the above with the caveat, but you might not see it–if it’s applying a bunch of “artistic filters” to the photo, it may not be legit for Farktography. If you have more specifics, it would help us know if it would be allowed. Straight cell phone camera shots would be fine, but stuff like “hipstamatic” iPhone stuff wouldn’t really qualify.

Nope, just the straight camera. I know none of those app things I don’t buy apply. I like to take pictures with it while my wife is going 75 down the interstate. You get all sorts of strange distortions and stuff that I love. I usually use my old AE-1 for most of my photography, but I can’t help but love the odd things you get with crappy iphone cameras.

Yes, exactly. I’ve got this one great picture I took with it while running around my 2 year old in circles with the camera… if she weren’t nude in it I’d use that for the contest, sadly, she’s always nude. I think, though, I’m going to use some stuff I took of the dash while in the passenger seat drunk one night. Looks like fireworks. Kind of neat. I love my AE-1. I actually got it off E-bay a few years ago, and stopped using digital altogether. Gave my digital camera to my wife.
