There was a rather rustic place 25 years ago that sat back off a bend in the road all by it’s lonesome that all the prototype students and instructors would wind up at. I wonder if it’s the same place…

Awwww…. Congrats, you two. Be happy, and may you have no shortage of volunteers to photograph the festivities! 🙂

Ahhh, I was wondering who to thank for the Clown Pie. It was very good, if a bit funny tasting.

OK, after reading all the comments I’m going to try a solid comparison this weekend when I have time for a proper setup and shoot at varying stops after getting a tight manual focus.

They just won’t leave me be at work after hours, they called AGAIN after midnight last night. Payday’s gonna be sweet, I’ll be so tired I’ll pass out at the bar 1/2 way into my first beer.

No, it’s not soft at all… pretty sure I had the auto focus points set incorrectly. I wanted the center zone only, but I’m beat… I really should do this whole thing over when the brain works. I should be in bed, was on the way when the phone rang and I got to drive 150 miles to fix stuff. Oh well. It’s O.T.

huh… color me shocked. At 100mm there is very little difference between the 24-105 L and the 75-300. 75-300 on the left, 24-105 L on the right. Apologies for the slightly soft focus on the 24-105 L sample, but I’m beat and not going out to retake it (immediate future is shower, food, bed)… I was expecting some noticeable CA on the 75-300mm at the least, since it’s so obvious in astrophotos.

I’ve used a non-L 75-300mm on my 5DII, and the resolution of the lens is noticeably lower than what I see when shooting thru the L-series kit lens. That’s at 21MP, not sure how noticeable the diff would be at say, 15MP. Once I get home I’ll set them both up at 100mm and have a look side-by-side.

Holy shit. Great, something else for me to burn time with.

My niece seems to have a natural eye… my sis and I split a Rebel XSi for her for christmas. She’s got an account here, but I have yet to see her on. I was hoping she’d get involved in the contests (since I never seem to get away from work long enough to do any extended shooting). Now all I need to do is find some worthy person to take my old 300D with broken autofocus… or remove the lo-pass filter and turn it into a dedicated HA imager…

Wow… makes me want to take the day off and play EVE
Man, I could get lost in a job at JPL or the like… imagine being the first person to see this stuff on a daily basis.

Hard to see much shot so wide. And I couldn’t see the peak of the secondary when I took the shots, so I wasn’t going to run 2 rows for hugin to stitch.

That’s a quickie pano from the jpgs, BTW… still trying to figure out what I want to do to the raw.

Man I could have written that first sentence…similar story here. Built my first PC in 95 after not having looked at a computer for over a decade. Talk about feeling behind the curve. I still remember the PC speaker noise fractint made after rendering was complete. Then I’d go back to playing Descent.

I hadn’t even heard of him at the time. Prolly a good thing, I’d have been losing sleep coding for that. The math is pretty light once you code that sqrt -1 thing in. Shocked you managed to get anything in those days with what was available; you had to have access to a mainframe back then to do any serious crunching.

Sheesh, it’s come a long way.
