ParticipantU-Man, while I like teh funnay ones (and find them quite funny), it feels to me that the glass isn’t the focal point. I doubt the voters will care about that, but even without that consideration, I like #4.
rav, great minds and all, I guess, but I’ve got a really similar B to your last B. My one and only bee.

ParticipantThanks for the input and well wishes all–woke up from my nap just in time to post.
U-man, if you’re still stuck, #2 would be my vote.March 31, 2011 at 12:59 am #38952ravnostic

I could crop to that exact shot. The ‘b’ is the b/w version; I opted for color to make the neon lighting’s pattern in the reflections a little more evident as such (whether that gets conveyed or not, who knows.)

ParticipantThe b’s:
The wallflowers are tres cool. I’d save that last one for reflections IIWY.

ParticipantThanks for the feedback.
Just to round out the portfolio, I went with the higher risk, but possibly high gain funny, somewhat outside-the-box shot. Me being me, the ones I posted here didn’t quite make the grade so, just before bedtime I gathered the girls together for another take. I don’t know if it’s any better…but it’s posted. 🙂

http://photos.imageevent.com/ulle17/fark/Chicago_4605.jpgEither of the “not funny” ones. In the “Funny” ones, I’d argue the subject is the girls, not the glass since you can’t really even see the glass itself.

KeymasterAnnnnd that’s what I get for spending the last two hours pulling taxes together and not paying attention to the thread here or there…

ParticipantI knew Chihuly would be a popular subject, he has so many interesting pieces! Some are way too busy for my taste, but he does have amazing vision.
Here are a couple of B’s from me for this week. I couldn’t get the lighting just right, so I think I’ll try again for Reflections, which was I gather may be coming up sometime? (I haven’t checked the hopper lately)
I’m a HUGE Prince freak, so my sister made me a special hanging piece of his symbol and then also the wall piece, which I posted pictures of before, maybe in Roy Biv?

http://flickr.com/gp/10731438@N07/7Aq1tPShe owns a glass gallery in the art complex, Tlaquepaque in Sedona which has her work along with other artists, including Chihuly. She also studied at his Pilchuck(sp?) workshop many moons ago. So if any of you take a trip to Sedona, make sure and stop in, it has beautiful glass & jewelry!

(and thanks for the compliments on my horse pics! I received some great news on the same two I submitted in Software Hootenanny, so I’ll post in the Gallery about it instead of jacking this thread any further…)

ParticipantSorry about the dup, Kestrana. Aside from the angle, it’s a nearly identical shot. I guess that’s what I get for not reviewing the thread before posting. Wouldn’t have made much of a difference this week though as I only had one B as a backup and I’m not thrilled with it.

Participantside question – I’m using flickr to host my images, and when I tried to post the first upload of one of my pictures (this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilpadrino03/5575932758/ ), I couldn’t post on the fark thread because it was too large. I then resized it on photoshop, posted it again, and it still wouldn’t post to the size I wanted – I had to downgrade it (from medium-large to just medium).
My question is – how do you get the large-sized pictures posted, like U-man’s “Three Smashed Girls.” or Kestrana’s “Chihuly Glass Walkway”? Do you just sacrifice image quality to increase the size? I feel the bottle’s smashing into dust is lost on a smaller scale in my picture.
March 31, 2011 at 5:11 am #38960Elsinore
KeymasterWhat I do is upload a Fark sized photo (in both pixel dimensions and file size), then post using the original size from Flickr (other sizes provided by Flickr are subject to file size bloat). If I want a larger size, I upload that separately and link to it from the thread.

Now that you’ve got yours pulled together, wanna come take care of mine? I’m sure as heck not looking forward to it, especially since we’re finally supposed to be in the 80s this weekend… 🙁

KeymasterIf they didn’t have to be into the accountant by tomorrow, mine wouldn’t be done tonight as it is 😆 It’s been a long busy week with each day packed with stuff to do, errands to run, follow ups to be made, etc. Unfortunately, it’s left me little time for photography. I’ll be glad when this week is over…
Good luck with your taxes, though!

I knew there would be a lot of Chihuly this time around… so I didn’t enter any of mine.
