last time I checked, magnesium can be even *more* interesting in the rain 😉
/don’t blame you for not wanting to disturb the pitweilier though…June 23, 2010 at 5:24 pm #28786caradocParticipantQuestion… would night-blooming flowers be acceptable for this one? Like these for example?
June 23, 2010 at 6:32 pm #28787orionidParticipantOf course. I try to keep my themes as open to interpretation as possible and let the voters sort it out. The go / no-go card on this one would be to simply ask “was it taken at night?”

/don’t blame you for not wanting to disturb the pitweilier though…Yeah, I was counting on that. I was thinking about spelling out FARK in three-foot tall letters of ribbon on the beach, putting the camera on a tripod up by the road thirty or fifty feet overhead, and then lighting off the strips of magnesium one by one.
I probably would have ended up with a big white blur, though, unless I stopped down all to hell.
I’ve got plenty of fall-back material.
June 23, 2010 at 7:15 pm #28789olavfParticipantYeah, it probably would have taken a couple of tries, and I’d be a little concerned about sensor damage :/

1) Cobalt filters (just like science class)
2) welding glass (poor-mans solar filter)
3) solar filter (nuff said)
4) mylar potato chip bag, doubled over (poor-er mans solar filter)June 23, 2010 at 8:16 pm #28791sooshParticipantI’ve got a piece of gold-filtered welding glass.
I’ve taken quite a few shots of burning magnesium before without problem, and plenty of sparklers. I’ve yet to see any damage.

Cool. Mine’s nasty green. I ended up just springing for an actual solar filter.
In other regards,
Elsinore: Is this too much skin for Fark?June 23, 2010 at 8:29 pm #28793nobigdealParticipantI got crap this week. Which sucks because if I got off my lazy ass I could have had some great stuff.
Blah!

June 23, 2010 at 8:40 pm #28795orionidParticipantThat’s what I was going for. Some of the outtakes…. not so much.
June 23, 2010 at 9:12 pm #28796ravnosticParticipantI knew that shot was…er…coming…from someone. Can’t say I’m surprised it was you. The fingers make the shot. Seems tame enough, though. They’ve been raunchier on network tv.
June 23, 2010 at 9:45 pm #28797ElsinoreKeymasterorionid: I think that’s ok.
