ParticipantI’m scrambling and archive-diving trying to find some macro shots. Sad I never got the macro lens to go with my DSLR, heh.
/Edit to say: Okay, I dove into my old food blog post (I’m afraid to go there…it’s back in the days pre-DSLR when I knew not a thing of photography) and grabbed some food photos I might use. I was also looking at my photos of legos, and I’m struggling to decide whether they’d be considered “macro” or not. My gut says that they’re not close up enough, even though they’re small to begin with. What say ye judges? Macro or no?

KeymasterIt’s a cute shot, but doesn’t strike me as macro.

ParticipantYeah, I thought so. Okay, thanks 🙂

take a look at some extension tubes instead. $179 for a kenco set with canon mount and there are links to nikon mount on that page also.
a bunch of folks will jump in here and recommend dedicated macro lenses but for my money i’d rather do ext tubes.

KeymasterThe benefit of extension tubes (besides the low cost) is that they turn any of your lenses into a macro lens.

ParticipantMy boss has a nice macro lens he said I could borrow (too late for the competition, unfortunately) but I was temporarily tempted to borrow it indefinitely as I move out of the state 😆

ParticipantI have no idea if my 55-200 lens is “macro” but it gives me killer (comparatively) close-up shots. I’m still wanting a longer lens for better telephoto/zoom in capacity. I’ll have to look into extension tubes. I have one for my film SLR, and enjoyed it way back when.

chances are it’s 1/2 half life size at best, not 1:1. however if it will focus at less than three feet at 200mm, yeah you can get some nice close-ups.

ParticipantYa know, for everyone being in a big rush to get some last minute ideas, there sure are a lot of great shots in this bunch.

ParticipantI was going to do a third, but 3-1/2 hours at the pub and a $26 tab (including dinner) for the two of us indicates otherwise. I’m pretty happy with the two I put up anyhow.
