October 15, 2009 at 6:06 pm #24679sirosisoflyvreParticipantCool contest. I remember, Elsinore, you had an awesome trumpet picture from a while back. I still use it on rotation through for a background. Maybe I can get some good pictures of my piano or organ…
/certainly nothing sexual there..
October 15, 2009 at 6:25 pm #24680ElsinoreKeymasterheh heh I remember you had some lovely (non sexual) organ pics, too! I’m going to have to break out Melody (yes, she had a name…hey, I was in high school!) and do some more photos of her. Or my late father’s guitar Nadine. Or both.
October 15, 2009 at 8:37 pm #24681meowsertdParticipantwhy was it latter in life we learn all the really cool people were in band?
October 15, 2009 at 8:46 pm #24682KestranaParticipantBecause in high school we weren’t mature enough to understand true cool…
/was in band
//all through college
///not a music major
////still plays sometimesOctober 15, 2009 at 9:03 pm #24683orionidParticipantHeh. There are days I miss my Clarinet. Then there are days I remember that there was a reason I played second to last chair.
October 15, 2009 at 9:06 pm #24684clouddancerParticipantI was in band too. My dad’s a music teacher. I’ve also been in chorus, show choir 1 year (was in a different school that year), had voice lessons and was actually a music major for 3 years in college (dropped out of college altogether after that year though). Should mention that in band (middle school and high school) I played the trumpet. Hubby plays trumpet. I self-taught myself piano (helped we had one in the house). I have a full sized keyboard but no room to put it up here so my Grandmother’s borrowing it to practice for a while. I have a guitar and also a clarinet (always wanted to play). I’m *really* glad to know I’m not the only band geek. My Dad did high school marching band for YEARS before I managed to get to high school (we won’t talk about the school politics that when I finally got to high school scrapped me from being able to be in the marching band) and he won a lot of first places and if not first place then second place. They were in the small marching band division (20-30 ish people) and I remember going down on the bus with them and sitting in the stands freezing but covered in blankets watching everyone play. I loved being around everyone and in that environment. I absolutely adored my Dad and the band (and they were good and worked at it). I have a ton of great memories from that time.
Eep, I see I’ve written a book. Whoops. I do miss being in band or choir, being around other musical people and such. I’m going to dig around this weekend when I’m not doing overtime to figure out what I really want to be using since I have so much of it, and not a single solitary scrap will be thrown away.
October 15, 2009 at 9:54 pm #24685ElsinoreKeymasterAhhh finally another female trumpet player! From 8th grade through college, I was the only one. Took guitar in 5th and 6th grade, trumpet 8th grade and on, even sidelined as a French Horn player in college one year when we had too many trumpets and no horns. I was ok on trumpet, but barely adequate on horn. Dabble on piano, and play various Middle Eastern percussion instruments, too. My Dad, Grandfather, and an Uncle were the musicians in the family. I was the only one who got Dad’s musical interests, so when he passed, his late 1960s Framus Atlantic hollow body was the only thing of his that I remotely cared about. No one put up a fuss when I asked for it. She’s purty and sounds lovely still.
Man, I have lots of good band geek memories. For the non-band geeks, yes, we were as perverted as you’ve heard….or worse.

This one time at band camp….
We know You are perverted, we’ve seen your bug porn.
Also Elsinore, my 11 YO daughter is in her first year playing trumpet and loves it.
October 15, 2009 at 11:17 pm #24687orionidParticipantSo you were the only girl in the trumpet section? Were your motives as ulterior as mine for being the only dude in the clarinets? As far as the American Pie quote? I was out of band by that point (substituted by far geekier teams/clubs), but all my band-geek friends got pretty pissed when that movie came out and suddenly EVERY parent felt the need to chaperone.
/Academic team bus still had only one adult.
//We were far far far worse than band.
///Don’t even ask about TSA.October 15, 2009 at 11:19 pm #24688orionidParticipantFor the non-band geeks, yes, we were as perverted as you’ve heard….or worse.

Is she perverted, too?
/Too far? I’ll take my seat.
//Submariners don’t have “lines” and tend to ignore those that do.October 15, 2009 at 11:30 pm #24689thepostessParticipantWell, she is my kid, so she is doomed. She still thinks most boys are icky, and we prefer it that way. 🙂
