ParticipantYou guys… *shakes head*
Perhaps I should stop worrying about stepping on toes with this one and just stick with the initial wording – with one minor change to get rid of the layout clause.
Take three different photos of different parts of the same subject and combine them as a triptych for a single fark-sized entry. As usual, you can submit three entries. Difficulty – The subject must be alive.
It sounds like y’all just want me to make a farking decision. Right? So let’s let it stand as above, recognizing that a full-view plus two parts is OK.
gambitsgirl – yes. Your three are OK.
Any layout is OK as long as it has three panels. A single background photo with two inset panels is OK.Roger.

ParticipantRav; I disagree about the (non-participating) voters knowing what’s best for fitting in the theme, especially if there’s a certain difficulty and there are many entries. A lot probably just vote for what they like, without really thinking about the theme details. But, they do get the final say, so there’s that. 😉 I think it’s more important, as part of the challenge, to make sure we fit the theme, rather than a voter who only read ‘Triptych’ and moved on to start looking at the (sure to be) awesome pictures.
The reason I play is so I can improve my skills by being given a subject, and going after it, and comparing my own results with those of others given the same subject so I can grow as a photographer. The only way to compare is by the votes, most of the time. It’s not a ‘ruling’–audience is the major consideration.
So I ‘shoot’ to learn and grow, but I select to ‘post’ what I hope will do well with an audience such as we have here. Lately, it’s been working out for me, but I don’t plan on taking that for granted–it’s a mad, mad world.
As a voter, however, I’m compelled to consider the theme suggestor’s intentions, which is what we go into in this forum. Depending on the theme, either the base farktography community will determine the victor, or the teeming masses of GFarkers will. Usually it seems it’s a composite of both–so I long ago gave up on predicting how such things will go.
I do agree about the growing part & I’m REALLY liking do this one, because it is challenging! I finally figured out the PS side of it, but boy it sure isn’t going to turn out how I first envisioned it while selecting the images. After cropping to make things fit, it’s quite different, to say the least! 😆 Now I’m having a hard time finding my third for my first entry because I’m not liking them next to each other, when actually *seeing* it.
Thanks U-Man, you made me learn something new & I’d wanted to learn how to do these someday anyway!
And thanks Kestrana for your tips, they were a big help! Even though I was told there would be no math. 🙁

ParticipantMay I pop in right here and say you are all awesome. I’ve enjoyed meeting you all and I’m glad QueenBee sent me here. You challenge me and make me laugh. It’s nice meeting people as we’re all learning together.

Participantkashari I’m not much a fan of math myself. But I tell myself it’s like vegetables, every once in awhile it’s good for you 😉

ParticipantI hate seeing all your pics early because it makes me feel like I shouldn’t bother. Damn you good photographers 😛

ParticipantMy problem is getting the triptych to come together on Photoshop.
FIRST – Click “New” and make a new empty image 2000x2000px
…
SEVENTH – Use “Save For Web” to resize to Fark size before uploading.I expect to be using Power Point and “save as” .jpg . It’s what I’ve got available. And it’s from Microsoft Office, so you know it’s got to be easy enough for a field grade staff officer to figure out.

I hope you guys are smarter than Navy nuclear puppets. I mean officers.

For any of you running Windows and in need of an easy-to-use yet somewhat powerful image editing program that’s also FREE, I’d highly recommend Paint.NET. It was originally created as a demo project by Microsoft employees but has since been enhanced to be a complete application. I find it quite handy for doing simple tasks. Its filters and effects are not as nice or complete as PS, but the price is right.

A) MS Paint comes on every Windows PC
B) PortableAPPs.com has GIMP as a portable you can run from the desktop to a flashdrive without “installing”Just sayin’

ParticipantU-man, I am SO glad you ruled my earlier entries were too far out of theme, because what I shot to replace them I am in love with. I sometimes forget the whole “challenge to do better” part and just want to coast on what I have. I gave up my guitar idea because (whine mode enable) when I tried it, it was too hard!(end whine mode) but I shot it and damn, I love the shots.

are some very convenient frames for those using the GIMP, P-shop (full or elements) any editing program that allows layers and layer modes. Open the original file, then paste you image as a new layer, scale and center on the frame then set your layer mode to Screen and voila, easy Trips!

ParticipantI played around a bit last night and was pleasantly surprised at the results. This one doesn’t fit the theme, but I love it.

ParticipantCrap, crap, crap…I put off the final of my triptychs until this past weekend, but it’s been rainy. Weather said it was going to clear up, but here it is, Monday night, and it’s still raining. Now the forecast shows no clear weather until Wednesday. That’ll be cutting it close…I want to shoot at night, I have something in mind, so hanging out with an umbrella wouldn’t work too well 🙁
PLEASE go away, stupid rain!

ParticipantI think I’ve got one! I’m having a lot of difficulty with composition–this is so new to me!

ParticipantI like that one NBD. For what you do with MiP.net, triptychs probably would work really well to advertise a band.
