A cool idea I had today is that the image on the front cover should have “Fark” incorporated into it, like this.
(Well, we would want one that did better than 18th place, so take something U-Man did)

    Like this?

Coca-Cola and Pepsi might raise legal issues with that photo being used to promote another product, unfortunately. On the other hand, the “but it’s art” argument might hold sway…

Consumer products are part of the public domain so there shouldn’t be an issue with that photo however I am pretty committed to the photo that is currently on the cover being in that place with different text and/or layout. However if you guys have other (even self promotional) suggestions and an argument why they would make a good cover, we can find another home for Dancin_in_Anson‘s precious poochie if it builds critical mass.

What’s the current contender, Kes? I haven’t seen it.

The reasons I like this picture:

    – It one of the recent highest vote-getters in a tough contest
    – It’s visually interesting while leaving enough empty space to put text
    – The subject is generic enough it could be anywhere and thus be universally connecting to an audience
    – The look of pure unadulterated joy and excitement on the dog’s face
    – It’s interesting and has broad appeal so that people might giggle and pick up the book, curious to see what is inside
    – It’s reflective of the fact that you don’t have to be a technician or take complicated photos to win a farktography contest (not to knock those winners in that category)
    – It wouldn’t otherwise be included based on the themes we selected for the book

I agree with using Dancin_in_Anson’s happy dog on the cover. It just has that “farktography kind of vibe”. Kestranas reasons are all good reasons I think.

It is a good picture. According to an article in the August, 2008 Pop. Pho. mag, it would be a good choice (p. 68.)

    is updated.
Running into a few issues with having 1 photo left at the end of a chapter so there is at least one awkward page at the end of Adventurous. Also haven’t gone back and updated with people’s caption options for everyone yet so don’t freak out if your name isn’t listed or titles, that will all be fixed before the end.

is updated again. It’s actually pretty complete now. Obviously this is a rough draft with just about every photo that was selected in the layout and we will probably cut pictures as we find out who we can’t locate for permission so the page count will go down. In general I like the look and feel of it. If you have any ideas/suggestions make them soon because the sample chapter will probably ship out this week.

Oh my God, Kestrana, what you’ve pulled together is seriously incredible. I’m proofing my questionable ones this week and will get stuff to you soon. Thank you so much for all your work on this!
