ParticipantGetting the portrait/battery grip helps with the Rebels.

ParticipantTape the watermark to the front element of your lens and do it in camera. Problem solved.
Haw. I’d need to shoot everything at f/32 to get it in focus.
Maybe if I tape it to the sensor. That totally won’t cause any problems.

ParticipantYeah I do all my web album stuff wtih Picasa too, though I’m thinking of starting to do it with Flickr because, well, everybody uses Flickr. We’ll see I guess.
As for manually watermarking, ugh. Photoshop isn’t part of my regular workflow, I use DxO for all my image selection and color management. The idea of going in and watermarking hundreds of images… *shudder* manually makes me cry. I want to spend the absolute least amount of time post producing my pics as possible so I can get back to shooting.

ParticipantA problem with one individual model of lens isn’t a black mark against an interchangable lens camera. And all Nikon cameras use the same lens mount, so you can mount the same lenses on any of them.
Analogy
ParticipantI’d like some software that could let me mass add watermarks to images too. I don’t think Picasa does it.
Analogy
ParticipantThat does sound like a bit of a conundrum. If you prefer the interface of the Nikon I’d say go with that. The interface is probably the most important part of a camera, what’s the point of having tons of features if you can’t get to them in the heat of shooting?
Just so you know I’m not biased, I have a 30D and love it, but I picked Canon mainly because my friend is a Canon shooter and we share all our accessories. I never even tried the Nikon gear so I have no idea what the interface is like.
As for the shakes, I’d say use a tripod or monopod when you’re in a situation where they’ll become a problem.

ParticipantDitto to ‘bort. I’ll admit FSM turned me into a stats whore. =D Nowadays I’ll stay out of the contest if I know my idea’s pretty mundane, because I know it’ll drag down my average.

ParticipantWhat the hell, why didn’t my examples work. =(

ParticipantRight now your links look something like this:
What you do is add target=”_blank” to the tag:
Hope this helps.

ParticipantThe most detail I have is this:
“LENS DROPPED, CK ELEMENT. GHOST LIKE IMAGES. CHARGES FOR REPAIR. SUBJECT TO RE-ESTIMATE”
The “subject to re-estimate” part scares me. =O If they have to replace some parts the price could start going up real quick…
Analogy
ParticipantSomething that stands out and looks different, but still fits the theme, and definitely has to have great artistic and technical merit.
Honestly, I don’t vote for the staplers, they’ve become a bit too cliche and obvious for me. The “It’s A Trap” of Farktography if you will.
Analogy
ParticipantI remember sticking a card in my 30D that my friend had used to take pictures with his Rebel XT, and my camera displayed his pictures perfectly and continued the picture numbering from where his camera left off.
I think the software in these cameras is a lot less fragile than you might think.
Analogy
ParticipantI’ve had this before myself, it’s probably on the ground glass above the mirror. Use some compressed air or a soft brush to get it off.
Analogy
ParticipantWell, the whole sordid story, it was sitting in my camera bag and I opened it one time by yanking up the lid and the bag tilted forward and dumped the lens into the carpet. Oops. =(
As for the results, well, when I zoom in pictures get really soft, but they’re soft in one direction like a Photoshop “motion blur” filter. So it’s like an element is tilted somehow so it’s blurring the picture in one direction. I don’t have any pictures to show you because, well, I deleted them, but trust me it looked simply awful. It was even visible at Fark size.
It’s not that bad at all at the shorter lengths, though, I took all of the photos for the “Sports” contest with the lens in this state. I just made sure I kept the focal length under 200mm and it worked fine. For example the tennis shot was taken from half court (and I got the shot when he was up by the net), the hurdler shot from right next to the hurdles (I knew shooting straight down the track like most photogs would require too much tele) and the softball pitcher from right off the 3rd base line.
The thing that finally made me cave and send it in though was when a black bear showed up in our neighborhood, second one in ten years, and in the interest of safety I couldn’t get close enough to get in the range that would be sharp with this broken lens. I probably could have sold it to some newspapers too if I’d had a lens that worked. Darn.
Analogy
ParticipantThere’s one in Chicago? Meh. Canon web site said I could send it to either CA or NJ, and I picked NJ. I’m pretty sure I’ll have to pay for the repair since I’m the second owner of the lens (boooo). We’ll see what Canon says when they receive it. I tried calling the service center and the representative said they couldn’t give any repair estimates over the phone. Booooo. I’m just crossing my fingers for something really simple like a misaligned element they can just pop back into place that will get it out of there for really cheap.
