Congrats to kashari on the individual win and to U-Man for the first in combined. The Weekly Reports post has been updated with the latest stats.

As Zero said, lots of good stuff this week, and lots of work required for this one so congrats to everyone who submitted. We ended up with 30 contestants and 73 entries, which ranks this contest at #9 for the fewest contestants ever and #14 for the fewest entries ever. However, and I think this speaks a lot about the effort put into this one and its subsequent appeal, it’s #118 when ranked by fewest votes ever.

Looking at it another way, this contest is the #5 highest ever ranked by votes/contestant (41.13) or votes/entry (16.9).

// aspidites, what happened?!? All of your entries disappeared about 4:30 this morning!

WTF I go away for a week and my photobucket folders get deleted? This just sucks everything I have linked from that account is gone

I pretty much do all my shit through mpix right now, but I haven’t tried calendars…yet.

I use mpix for all my printing also. I requested their printer profiles and I have my monitors set up for their printers, so what I see on the screen is what I’m going to see on my prints. That and they will drop ship the prints to any address I put on the order so I can send them straight from mpix to my customers.

Thanks, I didn’t figure I would get this one, Ranger Joe’s scenics were very good. Well at least I’m going out with a win. The eye doctor is limiting my computer time and he said no photography for awhile. I had a PVD on the optic disc in my right eye and he doesn’t want me to stress it for the next 4 to 8 weeks until they figure out if I have a retinal tear where it detached.

Film is a labor, now it is a labor of love for some, but a lot of damn work not matter how you go about it. Soon, very soon, the photo machines will be gone from stores as the profit margin on keeping them running evaporates. I shot three rolls for tonight and didn’t around to running them through the tanks because…well…it’s a lot of work. I’ve built up and extensive scanned film archive as I work my way through boxes of slides and negatives, which again…is a lot of work.

I don’t blame anyone for sitting out tonight. Shooting analog in a digital world just isn’t simple any more.

It is getting damn near impossible for me to get anything developed anymore. I never really shot negatives, always shot slide film. I only have 1 place near me that develops it and I don’t trust them not to fark it up. My only other option is to mail it out.

Luckily I have a hard drive with slide scans that I found for this one. I still like the way that the Provia and the Velvia come out over the digital, but since the places I submit for paying work won’t take anything but digital files I just don’t shoot the slides anymore.

What’s the difference then between shooting and scanning in color then converting vice scanning in greyscale regardless of film type? It’s no different than when I project color negatives onto a black and white paper.

I don’t plan on doing this, everything’s pretty much as shot, but I don’t feel a need to unnecessarily tighten down on this one.

On a side note, I’ve got a few bees to choose from. Anyone care to help me pare it down?

I like the one that says From Orionid under it, hope that helps

Can I just photograph my slides on a light table for this one? My scanner broke. 🙁

aspidites, since you are from Ohio I have to ask if you have all of these animals in your backyard too? Just kidding, I’m actually from Coshocton, just up the road from where all of those creatures escaped. Your photos are incredibly impressive. I shoot a lot of wildlife, but I’m kind of new and hope to get some half as good as these some day.

I read in another post that you use a teleconverter and I had to look it up to see what it does. Do you shoot with one a lot? I read that you lose 1 to 2 stops, but are the images just as crisp? Or more so since you can “bear” right down on the subject?

Have you shot at the Wilds? That was where I took the cheeta. You should also look into the Shoot the Hills competition down in Hocking Hills. We shoot that almost every year.

As far as teleconverters go…depending on what you are shooting as far as lenses and camera body will determine how much they degrade the picture. They will affect the quality to some extent. I only use them when I absolutely have to, when I can’t get as close as I want because of safety is usually when I use them. The 1.4x will add 1 stop the 2x adds 2 stops. they also affect your depth of field
