Are there a lot of good photo ops there? A local rescue center that focuses on birds has a couple events a year that are just for photographers. They bring out about 6-10 of their resident birds that are no longer fit to return to the wild and allow you to photograph them. A local pro photographer sets up perches and all of the proceeds go to help the rescue. I usually go because it is fun, it supports a great cause, and it’s 10 minutes from home. http://howellnaturecenter.org/special-events/photography-workshops/ But people come from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Ontario.

September 29, 2014 at 12:31 am #53312bender16vParticipantI’m a moran and added a title to an image. Will you please delete it (either the title or the post)? I rarely do that and after previewing I thought it seemed like a good idea. It was not. Sorry.

It’s no excuse for not participating but after working morning to night during the week I’ve been visiting local points of interest on the weekends. That doesn’t leave much time for shooting for contests unfortunately.
May 21, 2014 at 5:25 pm #53017bender16vParticipantI am finally home and remembered to enter a contest and forgot to enable voting on my first entry, again. Would you please switch it on? Thanks!
February 28, 2014 at 12:29 pm #52813bender16vParticipantThanks orionid and Barracuda. The eagle that I entered was taken with natural light at a rehab facility. There was a small ray of light coming through the woods and the background was in heavy shadow. The eagles flying around are from the Mississippi River, Locks 13 and 14 near Clinton, IA. I bet there are 1,000 eagle there right now. The cold winter has bunched them all up at the dams. It is incredible to see. All of my owl photos are also from a rehab facility. I’ve spent about 20 hours driving and hundreds of miles this year looking for Snowy Owls but have not found one.
February 26, 2014 at 8:36 pm #52804bender16vParticipantA tough subject for me since this is what I spend most of my time chasing. A few others:
Happy Seal
Soaring Eagle a few weeks ago
Eagle fishing
Piglet last weekend at the local park’s farm, 5 days old
Egret
Puffy Great Blue Heron
Blue Jay
Great Horned Owl Portrait
Goldeneye last weekend on Detroit RiverDecember 11, 2013 at 4:53 am #52533bender16vParticipantWould you be so kind as to enable voting on my first entry? I hit Add instead of Preview by mistake before ticking the box. Thanks!
November 28, 2013 at 4:00 am #52470bender16vParticipantPlease delete my B&W entry, for some reason I thought this week was machines and didn’t pay attention. Thanks!
November 21, 2013 at 5:56 am #52458bender16vParticipantCISS, same here. I very seldom bracket exposure unless I’m really afraid of screwing things up so I didn’t have many to choose from. Plus the whole HDR experience made me feel kind of dirty.
November 16, 2013 at 4:42 am #51805bender16vParticipantI’ve purposely stayed away from HDR but have had HDR Efex Pro 2 for quite a while. Because of this contest I thought I would fool around with some photos that I bracketed in the past as a precautionary measure. They seem to turn out pretty well but I wondered if you have any tips about processing before taking photos into the HDR software? Do you do it? If so, do you try to correct color, clarity, etc. and then apply the same settings to all images (other than exposure)?
October 11, 2013 at 5:00 pm #52311bender16vParticipantSorry I missed this one too. I really like the topic. I wish I could take a camera into some of the places I work since there are always machines in various states of dis assembly. I’ve been very busy with work recently as well and any free time to shoot has been focused on the outdoors stuff this time of year. I have a lot of images in my mind for next week too but that is up in the air right now as well.
September 23, 2013 at 1:05 pm #52367bender16vParticipantfluffybunny, that is what I have to do. I use this page to log in because I can’t get the main forum page to work. Also it seems that I get logged out at different time intervals that don’t seems to have any pattern. I do log in from my pc and my phone sometimes.
September 19, 2013 at 11:50 am #52352bender16vParticipantLove your shot of the barn at Mormon Row. That scene is a photo cliche for a very good reason and I really like your take on it with the slow shutter’s effect on the clouds and the colors.
September 6, 2013 at 1:15 am #52260bender16vParticipantOnly issues I’ve had were with a crazy duck lady at the park around the corner. She’s shouted at me a couple times not to take photos of her. Keep biting my tongue instead of responding with something nasty about wanting to find better subjects to photograph than her ugly mug.
Does she also go around picking rhubarb? (NSFW language if you don’t know her already)
