It’s not a zoom, but if it’s wide you want, these sell used for about $6000. I’ve heard that if you connect it to full-frame, it actually warps the space-time continuum.

That thing has the diameter of my Celestron SCT.
I’d buy it but I can’t find a place that will sell me a UV filter for the front of it.

I used the Tokina 12-24mm quite a lot on DX. I preferred it over some of the wider options, because 24mm vs 16mm on the wide end meant I could carry that, plus a 35/1.8 and a tele zoom (50-135mm usually) and ditch a standard zoom altogether. I didn’t find 12mm on the wide end (or F4) particularly limiting, but YMMV….

Since I have zero experience with this range of FLs I am leaning towards less is better, and the 12 seems like it might be too high. I just don’t know. I am happy with the 17-50 I have so my thinking is something that dives deep (11mm or less on the wide end).

On an unrelated note from your photos, I would also like to make it down to the Hamilton pool someday, heard and seen some stuff about it only.

    CISS,

Thanks for the reply. I’m looking for something I can use for architecture, landscape and sometime indoors. I have been many times and will go back to the desert southwest, and with my current widest lens (Tamron 17-50) I really liked what I could do at the 17mm end. Occasionally I’ll be inside somewhere that I want to capture more of but can’t. I did some work inside an old stone building atrium and I just couldn’t get the framing I wanted to capture the spirit of the place. Great lighting, texture and so on. I had a sad. I even tried my Kenko 180 fisheye but it didn’t get me there.

Kind of a run on, hope I am communicating effectively.

Sample shots would be great. Why do you think it does not get much use in your kit?
Do you find the f3.5 to be a significant limitation? Hand hold or tripod?

So I acquired one photograph this morning for the Dungeons and Dragons Theme, and I haven’t even looked at it closely. That and I still need 2 more before tomorrow evening. So I guess what I’m getting at is “Mandatory Procrastination is no different than any other theme for me”.

I don’t think click throughs have anything to do with votes.

My Crown Point #1 photo has 15 views on Flickr and not all of them came from Fark.
Orionid‘s NSFW triptych has like 800 views and was not remotely near the top 10.

I myself rarely click through to larger and whether or not I do click through has little bearing on whether or not I vote for the entry.

As for how to get more people to vote, it goes hand in hand with participation. We have a healthy group of regulars that participate but the more people playing the more votes we get. The casual viewer has no incentive to vote despite how easy it is. That is really one of the only perks to having a prize for the winner, would be more of an incentive for casual viewers to participate and vote.

I rarely click thru either & stopped posting bigger images except for a couple rare times.

While I was just a ‘viewer’, I sometimes would quit voting mid-thread or wouldn’t vote at all because there were too many images to go through. Has the thought of cutting it down to two entries ever been discussed?

I had the same “meh, tl:dr syndrome when I was “just a viewer” as well. How about an alternatively formatted Fark page that uses more of an overview (I don’t want to say thumbnails as they seem too small, but maybe a little larger than bibliostats images)?

    Info for fluffybunny’s idea…

I was thinking more of a hard reboot, but reloading firmware might work too.

Don’t know Nikons but kinda sounds software (aka firmware) related. Is there a way to reset the camera’s brains?

Kinda hoping Uman’s border answer is good as that is the direction I went.

Adding my +1 (ELEVENTY!!!11!!) for this theme. I’m quite happy with what I got, but struggled with it until the last minute (out of time at this point). I’m going sit back and try to enjoy this feeling a little while before you guys post yours and blow me out of the water. Looking forwards to seeing what ya’ll have done.

I believe you can do hover effects and menus without flash (using javascript I think), from what little I’ve done in Drupal (yet another free web building kit with lots of templates and add ons).

So Kes, if you’re ok with sharing it, any idea what your price structure will be like? I’ve never contemplated charging for photographs but now I’m curious (well not Curious,.. I’m FluffyBunny, but that’s not important).

Kinda leaning the way of Orion on this, I’m happy with Farktography as is, I wouldn’t get rich off it even if I was a consistent top ender like Uman. Have not done the research but I image there are lots of internet places to publish for money. Gotta wonder also if Orion’s comments about a being on the “inside” of a scene (from D?sseldorfian thread) wouldn’t start to become an issue.

ennui, I had not thought of the “number of prints sold” might cause heart ache aspect. Hmmm,… would not even the “private” money details essentially be public for anyone who wanted to find them?

Would the DeviantArt model work here?

Kes described a possible need for vetting to achieve quality control. I would argue that it appears Farktography already supplies the engine for this. The voting process has been cited in numerous theme interpretation threads as the ultimate answer to “is what I want to do ok?”. Have the main Fark contest page display a button next to the vote check box for “buy print”, agree on a price (or scheme) among Farktographers, and voila.

The bigger question to me is “Will money ruin what I like about Farktography?”, this I have not thought out yet.
