    Not that it matters a whole bunch, and saying “no”‘s easier than dealing with such a minor issue but…

    Any chance we could maybe open up adding a few for like a day or 2? Maybe have a thread, toss ’em in there, and then if deemed SFW put into the Avatar library?

    Just a thought, and I’ll understand if “No” is the answer…

    +1

    /Also understands if no means no.

    So we’re all on the same page, right?

    Right. And cars are alive, right?

    They consume, they excrete, they are mobile, modern ones even have brains that think

    They still don’t reproduce though.

    wanna bet?

    Until I see little Smart cars waddling away, it didn’t happen.

    How many nested quotes can we get?

    At some point they’ll collapse in on themselves and form a black quote hole.

    I wanna see that in a twisted kinda way 😈

    A hole from which no substance can escape.

    Past the point of no return.

    Would it help if we divided by zero?

    do
    {
    quote(last_post);
    }
    while (true);

    Oh, thanks Cause.

    I was thinking from the above discussion that only “Upload Avatar from your machine” was disabled and that “Upload Avatar from a URL” still worked.

    From the page at:
    http://www.farktography.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=profile&mode=editprofile

    I am unable to use either “Upload Avatar from your machine” (explained above) or “Upload Avatar from a URL”. When I try the URL method, I’ve used the “http://” prefix and omitted it. I’ve tried different image formats. The images are within the specs stated on the profile page.

    I get the resulting page saying “Your profile has been updated” but no avatar at the profile page the next time I look nor in my posts.

    What am I doing wrong (feeling kind of stupid)?

    I had two squad cars dispatched to investigate me while I was using a parking garage to get some elevation. They just asked me to stop and were otherwise reasonable. It was private property so I was in the wrong. It was also not long after 9/11 so there was that. That experience inspired me to acquire a little knowledge in the area just as a CYA.

    Yeah, I do carry printouts. Mostly to remind me what the contest is.

    I also carry this guys summary, but again mostly for me. I can’t imagine whipping it out in response to a LEOs questions would go over well.

    Can we have a badge or decoder ring or press credentials or something issued by Farktography?

    “It’s OK. I’m with the press.”

    I am probably the last person in the world who is not on FB. Maybe some other way.

    Cliche’ yes but organizations take on the character of their leaders.

    Hey rav, small world indeed. Would like to hear your take on Microchip. While we all hear about the bad companies, I try to keep tabs on the good ones. Holding on to optimism I guess.

    Seems like the difference between “mature” and old fart is like the difference between “perspire” and sweat.

    Good talking to you, see you around the place.

    Speaking of PICs,…

    Microchip has always impressed me as a modern company in a fiercely competitive global environment. They are as accessible to guys like me buying 1 part as to companies making millions of production units. They have been this way since I discovered them in the ’90s, when I coaxed a sample of two 16f877’s from a sales rep. Another company (albeit vendor vs mfg) in that field that I have the same sentiments for is Mouser, who are “just down the street” from me.

    Your son does know that the TY in TTY stands for type, as in literally typed out on paper, right?

    Man I’m old.

    I don’t code for money, its more of a nerd thing that sometimes winds up benefiting wherever I’m working.

    I never had the patience for assembler, only ever did it when I had no other choice. Mostly written stuff on Linux and MS platforms and to support one of my other bad habits: micro controllers. Even with those I use C vs assembler. While the resources are miniscule compared to PC like platforms, there is enough slack in modern uC’s to relax efficiency compared to the z80 days.

    No further questions Your Honor. I appreciate your work on it, like you said, it makes Farktography a better and more attractive place.

    What language do you work with? I have some experience in C and Python, and a smattering of others. What’s your favorite platform(s)?

    Yeah, chemistry. Haven’t done much in HP since the contractor days.

    Got my first 35mm film camera around 1985 or so, Minolta X series. Nothing spectacular. The images are always better in your memory than if you go back through them. It must be residual impression from “the moment” when you see something you did that came out better than anything else you’ve done. Part of growing I guess.

    Got my dSLR around the same time (2006), sure would have made some aspects of learning on 35mm easier. Then again, the hard won knowledge may have value in itself.

    I have a couple very old cameras (4×5, etc) but have never had the time to make them go.

    Here’s to spectacular failures. Had a few of my own. I’ve learned more from trying things on my own than via any other route.

    Good to meet you. Hope to make this a regular haunt.

    I just noticed Kestrana’s comment, you a nuke too?

    I was an ELT, class 8307 (yeah, old timer). Did contract nuke worker for a few years and settled here near Dallas at Comanche Peak. We are in a single unit outage so I understand the long hours. Probably the wrong time to (quit sniffing glue,…) become involved in Farktography (I’m working 6 nights), but I realized this was a good place to motivate me to make more pictures and learn from people with more talent.

    I&C is a good path. Hang on to that double time, we lost ours years ago and the best we get is time and a half. It will be hard to find a “normal life” as a shift worker but at least you can go home every night and sleep in your own bed.

    How long have you been behind the lens?
