ParticipantI wonder if they’re going to make an EOS adapter for that thing.

ParticipantI thought long and hard about the Canon 100 – 400 L before I settled on the Sigma 100-300 F4. The Canon 70-300 seems to be on par with the 100-400 here:
In the end, I got the Sigma at 1/2 the price of the 100-400 and I’m happy with its IQ. None of these are going to be inconspicuous, casual tele-zooms. They tend to get people’s attention. At 2.3 lbs the 70-300 is slightly lighter than my Sigma’s 3.2, but either way you’ll tend to consider the need to carry it on a long hike.
AF speed will be a consideration if you trying to follow the subject. Some super zooms have very slow focus speeds.
Don’t forget TCs, they aren’t the best solution especially with zooms, but if you’re carrying your gear and water on your back all day, a 1.4x TC can make a long lens out of something light if you have the aperture to work with.
(that comparison site lets you add a TC on some lenses)

ParticipantFYI, I’ll be off grid/incommunicado for the entire duration of this contest. Haven’t had any problems recently with the scraper and don’t anticipate any this time, but if so, I won’t be able to address it until just before the next contest.
Really hoping to be able to get back into the contests in a couple of weeks. I’ll have missed 8 in a row by then, my longest time out ever. 🙁
This is my first in a while, I feel your pain. It was my theme so I figured I should probably play. Here’s to hoping I can keep it going for a few more.

ParticipantSo just checking, but it seems I don’t have a pony in this race either. Too late now, I suppose; but I did have some I was going to look through for processing potential. But I broke my Femur/hip Monday, and am currently on high levels of Vicadin-like pills; I don’t trust my processing skills right now.
Maybe next week I’ll be more mended and less medicated.
Good God man! I’m sorry to hear that. How’d it happen?

ParticipantAny drop(s) of water, moving or not.

ParticipantI’ve seen my Canon 10-22 produce blues in the sky like that before. It does seem a little over the top but the shadows appear fairly unadulterated to me.

ParticipantI’ve only done a couple of short hikes in mud and DO NOT LIKE. How long were you on the trail? Photos pretty good for the conditions and camera. Looks like some awesome country.

ParticipantI’ve been out for the last couple weeks and just now catching up with everything.
These little family members offer unconditional love and ask for so little in return. We tried to have cats but living in the country puts them at risk from a variety of predators. We lost all of them over a short period of time, and will not be getting more. The joy of having them around is offset by the agony of losing them. I’m sorry for your loss.

ParticipantOf all, I like the HDR in (seems like it’s the most subtle):
