ParticipantJesus that’s some crazy good shit you’ve been posting…
Thanks. I know people tell us that it isn’t the equipment, it’s the photographer, but sometimes–it’s the equipment.
//though I give kudos for me for figuring out alignment (but not orientation) in the daylight, and the wisdom to bring a $2 Wallyworld black pillowcase to aid in seeing the view screen during live-view focusing.
Ah, I’d need to recrop it, fluffy!! The full phase is obviously not to scale (easy enough to fix.) I keep meaning to get with Jeff Craw and B.J. Hollander about setting up my flickr account for Getty stock images. over the past two years, I’ve gotten some good shots that might appeal to someone, somewhere.
Here’s one more; this is a crop pentych; sunspot 1484 as she’s swallowed by the moon’s shadow.

I used a minor sunspot for alignment between images. Kinda doesn’t look that way, but in the grid, it is indeed aligned.
If it were me, I’d keep it as is. I like the center image slightly larger, FWIW.
Noted. Might realign the centers, though, at least.

Participantlove the foreground detail, Yoyo I wanted a similar shot with powerlines through my scope, but hit a wrong button during the final approach and couldn’t get back to the view in time. I did capture it with the xTi, but the haze wasn’t dark enough, blew out the sun, and thus the powerlines. :o(

ParticipantThe flimsy plastic ones do work better; my aunt brought along some shade 14’s, and I tried one–definitely too dark–she couldn’t get shots at all (well, nothing worth posting). I’m very happy with the baader filter results, but I think I’ve got to get a plan to get me an h-alpha. Cost is the prohibitive factor in a scope of my size.

ParticipantYeah so at 7:48 or so we drove out to the neighboring field and watched the sun descend below the horizon before any part of the moon obscured it. Hopefully no one got any ticks.
For. The. Win. Best commentary evar.

ParticipantLots of blown-awayedness folks! chupa I think clouds really help define a unique eclipse photo; nicely done!
And Fluffy; I love love love the horizonal distortion! Actually, it’s a really good example of why we see the sun rise or set a minute or two before/after (repectively) it actally does. great colors, too!
Caradoc; I looked at the flicker version, and you got a sunspot indeed–it’s very nice; doesn’t come across as well at 640w (or so).
So here’s a sampling of mine, thus far; I’ve far from finished processing yet. However, you can better believe I’ll work every damned one of these into any farktography contest I can muster…
This is my favorite, thus far. Used the xTi body with the Tamron 70-300, set at 300 (480 equiv). F/45, it brought out the diffraction spikes–but what a bright crescent does to diffraction spikes!!:

The next three, contact point two (full annularity, just about), centered (as close as my location permitted) and contact point three, respectively. I’m a little disappointed that no sunspots were anywhere near the edge (well, there is one small one, 4-5 oclock) to give drama to the image.
//but I can’t complain.

I’ve more to go through; between the two camera bodies I took some 600 or so images.
I’m sad to say I did not get the image I really wanted, due to my own stupidity and lack of coordination.
I did, however, get my tracking down (until then) to less than 3 seconds of arc over 4+ minutes of time. Chupa will likely appreciate that, especially as I did so using only the sun, with a rough initial polar alignment, over the course of the day.

ParticipantI got some stunning shots, and one epic fail. Details after I eat–it’s been 13 hours since I had a decent meal!
It’s not bad, caradoc; just a little overblown. Were you on 100 ISO?
can’t wait to see everyone’s pics who took them.
ravnostic
ParticipantI hate it, but I’m going to miss this one. Had albums bought at the Goodwill and everything; just didn’t take the time to compose anything, and now I’m in Page and will be till Tuesday night. :o(

ParticipantHow much RAM you got? You might have to do it in slices, designed to be imprinted on wallpaper strips. Elsewise, you’ll need less resolution or a really nice CRAY
Cray? Seriously? My laptop has more computing power than those antiques. It’s all about distributed processing now.
Do they not have more modern CRAYs? I thought they did, keeping up with the Jones’es, so to speak.

ParticipantThe urban waterfall in b/w is wonderful!

ParticipantSo, something recursive…can I get an example? I’m thinking just repeating patterns, but if it’s more subtle than that…
//nevermind. Read the thread descrip.

ParticipantShould you ever be in the Phoenix area, lokis (or alternately, if I ever make it out your way–which is where?), look me up. I carry t-adapters for both Canon and Nikon (I’m not a snob 😉 ), and would be happy to let you play with my astrorig.
ravnostic
ParticipantThanks, lokis. I am a wee bit proud of it. (Ikeed–I’m overjoyed to have taken it).

ParticipantThat’s what I get for not paying attention. I was looking for rusty stuff until I saw what Mopsy had thrown on our imagehost.
Good thing I take photos of weird shiat. I even have one of these…
