ParticipantThanks lokis! chupa; It’s too big–I can’t fit it in my viewfinder. I get the main center, though. I haven’t got to them yet, but I have some I took with the piggyback 300mm rig that might pan out. Meanwhile, I’ve processed my favorite galaxy, and though the crescent moon was out and it’s only 9 frames (it got windyish so the other 11 weren’t good enough), I like my first effort.
For those who don’t know, the Whirlpool (TM) Galaxy is one of the larger ones–about 1/3 of the diameter of the moon. It’s located off the far end of the handle of the Big Dipper. It also happens to be my favorite. 🙂

ParticipantNew one; I have to get to my ‘home’ location to review Andromeda–looks a little iffy on this monitor. But I’m pretty sure I nailed the moon as nicely as I can without stacking it. Huge file (1/2 meg); linking to avoid screwing up the thread.

ParticipantJust got back from my 2nd venture. Pictures shall ensue. Weathermen don’t know shit. If I knew it would remain so clear, I’d have planned for it and stayed all night. As it is, I got several objects I hope pan out in processing. Stay tuned!

ParticipantKes I SO loved your shot and I’m SO 2xly glad it won!! Congrats!

ParticipantMy God, man, how much more incentive do you need, Plama? 😀

ParticipantLOVE the Horsehead shot! Dammit, clouds are to be moving into the valley tomorrow night, my planned observation night! But the forecast looks a WEE bit better than last nights. I’m debating whether to even go–the rig is aweful heavy to lug around for cloudy skies.
I want to try piggybacking my 300mm on the scope for shots like these, though.

ParticipantI found the same with the MW light last Sunday. Unfortunately, there’s a cold front with precip. moving in Sunday night (when I planned to go out.) It will be colder, and clouds will be rolling in. I’m thinking of either postponing, or planning on leaving if it gets too cloudy. Which would suck. Either way.

ParticipantPics or it didn’t happen! 😀

ParticipantI think it would be fine if you allow us to make some “modifications” to it first.

Nevermind

ParticipantUh, yeah, just got around to glancing at Theli. I think someone reinvented Latin…

ParticipantProbably no chance you’d all let me use the telescope–which is a unique mirror lens, and does hook up to my digital camera–for this contest, huh?
//just askin’.

ParticipantOrionid–I was the kid who got picked last for kickball (and every other team sport throughout his entire scholastic career–which is exactly why I don’t follow any pro sports and instead enjoy sports that are about individual merit like the X-Games or (traditional) Olympics).
I’m long overdue. YMMV.

ParticipantYay! Astro pikchurs shall ensue soon!

Participantf/6.3–I’m using the reducer lens. While my camera body kicks it back up to 2800 via sensor size, I think I keep the 6.3, no?

ParticipantWell…you can make out the Horsehead, and if I’d taken more shots for stacking it would be better–but there’s a reason I haven’t posted it–it’s not that impressive. Somehow I’ve lost the 7 minute shot (I might have deleted it; trails were more evident though it WAS brighter.) This is the 4 minute. I think I can tighten up on these. And if I go f/2, modified for the H bands–maybe a ‘whoa’ could happen–the beauty of the wider field of view would allow for longer exposures without evident trailing.
