ParticipantTo take a recent example, here’s a wonderful photo from corsec67
the green oval contains a sensor spot – removing that would be within the rules as they now stand.
the green polygon contains a shadow (or something) which when removed would help the image. the image’s finish in the theme probably would not have changed, but the overall quality would go up. (I’m not picking on corsec67 – it is a good image). i have an image in the Everything for a Dollar theme that has the issue – an almost white background with some gradients creeping in. oh how I would have like to have been able to correct those (which I did when I made a print)
I’d like to include corrections like in the green polygon.

ParticipantActually, I was wondering if the Farktographers over time graph could be improved, perhaps by making the boobies and weeners 5 contest moving averages or something…. it’s awfully hard to read as is right now.
I also added a 10 contest MA to the boobies and weeners lines and spread it out a bit.
Let me know what you think.
(btw – this is the go-to report that I use to judge the health of the Farktography Program. It is also the one report that I take the most pride in)
(btbtw – 2nd best contest evar, by prit near every measure)

Participantwrite’em up, please. my head is not in it right now.

Participantsure, run with a time-limited poll for one week.
schnee
ParticipantThe “DO NOT divide by zero” makes it. I think we might have a winnar.
schnee
ParticipantDo we have a metric in the FSM that will tell us the contests which had the most boobies/most entries in say a top ten format?
Not really. The green line in the Farktographer’s over time show’s the boobies, and you can scroll through the tabular data. The most entries can be gleamed from the Distinct by theme report, but it doesn’t sort like you want.

Participant* What are acceptable and unacceptable modifications?
** These are the Submission Guidelines for all Farktography Contests,
unless otherwise stated in a theme description.
* Submissions must be photographs. Screen captures do not count as
photographs.
* You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not
submit anyone else's photography as your own.
* You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit
the same photo to another contest later.
* Up to 3 photos can be entered into each contest, as long as each
photo is of a different composition. Please post each photo
separately so they can be voted for individually.
** General Photographic Guidelines:
* Compositional changes, particularly those that involve adding or
removing elements of the photo, are bad. No adding Elvis, no erasing
utility lines.
* Image corrections are accepted. Color or value correction?
Perspective? Pin cushion? Unsightly blemishes? Stray hairs
falling over your model's alabaster face? Fix these. That's cool.
** Unacceptable Modifications:
* Combining exposures in post-processing is not allowed (e.g. HDR,
stitching, stacking negative, &c - not allowed). However,
multiple exposures produced in-camera are always acceptable.
* Removing or adding compositional objects or textures via cloning
or copying. Cropping is fine, but no removing the branch that
seems to be growing out of Aunt Edna's head.
* DO NOT divide by zero

ParticipantI’m really pleased to see all the boobies from the new Farktographers.
We have to go back almost two years to the Photograph your favorite places theme to get more boobies than this, and the day is still early. Success? I should think so.

ParticipantOK, together again for the first time, here is the new The Rules proposal:
* What are acceptable and unacceptable modifications?
** These are the submission guidelines for all Farktography contests,
unless otherwise stated in a theme description.

** General Guidelines:
* Gross compositional changes are bad. No adding Elvis, no erasing
utility lines
* Image corrections are accepted. Color correction? Perspective? Pin
cushion? Unsightly blemishes? Stray hairs falling over your
model's alabaster face? Fix these. That's cool.
** Unacceptable Modifications:
* Combining exposures in post-processing is not allowed (e.g. HDR,
stitching, stacking negative, &c - not allowed). However,
multiple exposures produced in-camera are always acceptable.
* Removing or adding objects or textures via cloning or copying -
no removing of utility wires, no inserting images of Elvis

schnee
Participant* Combining exposures in post-processing is not allowed. HDR
(High Dynamic Range), stitching, stacking negatives, use of
similar techniques that blend either separate exposures or
differently exposed single RAW images - all those are
out. Multiple exposures produced in-camera are always
acceptable, however.?

More nicelyer concise, but not quite pithy. Is there a wordsmith in the house?
(after getting the edits, I can work on the final copy and convert it to HTML for Fark consumption, unless you know org-mode in emacs – the above is just that (and by ‘you’, I mean the collective ‘you’))
schnee
ParticipantThough why allow correction of blemishes and stray hairs but not power lines?
I struggled with that as well. Scale, yeah, and I was combining photojournalist ethics with portrait photographer ethics – the portraitist knows that everyone wants to be presented at their best and removes blemishes automatically. The journalist wants to show the reality image.
Now, if we had a “Show us your liver spots theme”, then keeping the blemishes in would be the right thing to do.
