ParticipantNow you ask for it back?!?

ParticipantYeah, on the few occasions that I bust out the flash bracket, people really think I’m a professional. The mere fact of sporting a SLR in these days of camera-phones or miniscule P&Ss makes people ask me who I work for, and a huge honking flash doesn’t help.
I know enough about my Canon Speedlite to be dangerous, but I’d like to faster and less experimental with it. More knowledgeable and confident.

ParticipantI’ve been out of the loop this year as well. I think for myself, it’s just a general malaise that comes from being unemployed.
I don’t think Fark will be relegated to the /dev/nul of history anytime soon. Other sites have come and gone (or peaked and faded), yet Fark seems to have remained (or maybe I’m just hanging on far past the sell-by date). I recently befriended lots of the FarkCon attendees on the Facebook and have been sucked into various threads in the TFark group, but it’s just not the same, so I’ve turned off notifications.
I have no idea where this essay is rambling off toward, so I’ll just end it now.
Maybe Farktography should buy an ad at HuffPo?

ParticipantWell, so there I was, taking pics at the $50 flat rate open bar on Bourbon St. in the French Quarter last night, when who should I run into but Drew Curtis and the legendary Mike Andrews. Shocking! I know! What are the odds of seeing both of them at once?!? Since I had their mostly undivided attention, I asked if they might have some server space for all (or most of) the pics I’d been taking, and they’re response was that since bandwidth is now so inexpensive, they might start hosting images on Fark itself.

ParticipantStanding on the curb in the middle of Bourbon St. at the 2013 Fark World Party is a good way to photograph strangers. While it’s not exactly spy-photo sneakiness, I never had to ask for permission. On more than one occasion, people would see my flash going off and then pose for pics. Some people are better at posing (and more naturally photogenic) than others.

ParticipantIt definitely ain’t “art” photography. Everything is shot at f8 to f11 because you need good DoF to see the stadium. It’s all Flash work, the shadows are hell in the stadium and everything is WIDE to give the booth techs plenty of room to crop the photo. (For me, this is the hardest part, I like to concentrate on faces and eyes when I shoot).
Sounds like good guidance for Fark Con. I’m rocking the 10-24 zoom and 580EXII for most occasions here. They worked great in Las Vegas. I don’t ask for permission here before I snap so I can get candid shots. However there are many people who recognise me from last year and mug for pics.

ParticipantIt’s going on right now! At this very moment. I’m Farking from inside the hotel!!!

ParticipantJust like this zombie thread being brought back to life, so too is the Fark World Party. Only this time it’s voodoo zombies in New Orleansinsstead of desert post-apocalypse zombies in Las Vegas. Anyone else coming? I’ll be the guy with the T2i, Tamron 10-24, and 580EXII.

ParticipantI like freezer wrapping paper for a white background. It’s cheap and disposable. Matte on one side and glossy on the other. Uber white and texture free.
/Allison. Last time I saw her was in New Jersey. I’ve still got her number though.

ParticipantThanks. I really wouldn’t have believed what a difference shooting in RAW and post-processing makes until I got Lightroom. Shooting a lot of landscapes when the sun has started to go down makes it very difficult for me to get a perfect exposure for both the sky and the earth.
Post processing is a crutch. It’s easy to get well exposed land and sky at sunset. You just need a graduated neutral density filter. 😀

ParticipantCongratulations on your possible entry into the world of professional photography. Not everyone can be a bitchy mom trying to run a portrait studio shooting graduating high-school seniors while complaining about the costs of doing business.

ParticipantHe’s obviously not going through New Mexico or west Texas. Even the 2 line highways here are 75 mph in some areas. Heck for $15k, I could do this and include buying a (new to me) car and camera. For $15k I can make a movie. In fact I am doing that, although post production is running a bit more.

ParticipantHighlights For Kids!?!? Awesome!

ParticipantI’m all about adding Farktography to the contests tab if only to make it easier for me to know when they’ll hit the main page, and to find them when they go live without having to look all over the place.
