I stopped for 3 days in Page, Arizona on my way home and then spent Sunday along the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I’m hoping some of the stereo-grams I shot turn out well. They might show the enormousness of the ditch.

I just baked way too many pies for Thanksgiving. I still have two full ones left. It did happen. I have pics.

    Pumpkin

Banana (Just like pumpkin but with bananas instead. Adjust spices accordingly. I should have blended all of the bananas instead of slicing some as they were not ripe enough and came out too chewy.)

    Apple

Well everyone, I can now assure you that Bender16v does in fact exist. It did happen, and I have the pics. Unfortunately, he’s not a robot from Futurama.

I hope your business dinner Monday went well.

I go back to ’99 or maybe ’98 for my Boobies.
Perhaps the slump has to do with regulars getting pissed off by all the political posturing, so they take their toys and go home?
Or maybe people are just creeped out by the gross fake blood and stuff.

Yoyo, that is where I am going as an exhibitor and I have to set up our machines then tear down afterwards. So working the three day show turns into two weeks for me. I don’t know of any companies in NM that are hiring (or any really), but I can ask around. What are you looking for? Machine builder, sales/service, fabrication shop? If you need a ticket let me know. You can register up to November 9 for free here or let me know if you need a ticket. Are you going for the whole time?

Woo! What are the odds? Oh, yeah, I meant to say FABTECH.
I’m already registered for the expo hall. I’m skipping all the topical training stuff, cause I’m cheap. I don’t have a room, yet. I plan on driving up from Las Cruces on Saturday to arrive on Sunday, pass out resumes and network for a few days, and head out of town Wednesday afternoon. I’m open to relocation nationwide. I’m looking for anything in engineering: mechanical, design, manufacturing, construction, HVAC, management, whatever. If SEMA wasn’t a full week earlier I would have attended that too.

(I really should to relearn to count cards at blackjack and make gambling my full time job.)

Great costumes. I’m sure the butterflies love the marigolds.

Tetons were awesome. I recommend dinner in the Mural Room. (Chicken fried bacon on top of coq-au-vin, awesome!) You could skip Rocky Mountains NP and Sand Dunes NP in Colorado. I recommend the Painted Desert, Escalante something, Giant Staircase thingy, whatever in northern AZ and southern UT. Page, AZ has a nice dam. A big problem is there is a large barrier to navigation across the top of AZ. Bring a GND as the skies are really bright. Also a wide angle for the landscapes. I haven’t been to the meteor crater, but I hear that it’s worth the entry fee. The big cross in Groom, TX is free. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groom,_Texas There’s plenty of other Americana kitch to be found along I-40 as well.

I’m heading to Las Vegas the week after (Nov. 12-14 plus travel) for FABCON. Anyone looking to hire an engineer?

I can’t wait for the Boy Scouts to update the merit badge design to either modernize the flash unit depicted or just replace the whole camera with an iPhone. 😛

I guess you and I have different ideas of what qualifies as “good,” Yugoboy. I’m certainly liking more than 1/50 of my shots. I’ve been playing around with moving lights, zooming shots, panning shots, rotating shots. The country fair was a gold mine between the arts & crafts hall and the midway. I haven’t tried writing my name yet or multiple exposures via bulb setting and lens cap, but I’ve still got a week at least.

No, the “Restricted Area” signs were not posted at the entrance. No, it’s not post-9/11. It’s a pair of REMF E8s with nothing better to do with their time. Consider White Sands Missile Range which is adjacent to Ft. Bliss. It has big signs saying no photography allowed, then at the museum it has signs saying photography is allowed in that area only. Compare this to Ft. Bliss where at the 1st Armor Div. museum there is a sign at one of the displays that says no flash photography allowed. Furthermore, Ft. Bliss is an open post. The public is allowed on post any time. The MPs were probably thinking to themselves, “I got pulled off my lunch break for this?” I generally prefer to fight the man about regulations, but I know when to pick my battles. I was investigating officer in Kosovo regarding an incident where a civilian news crew was filming some EOD soldiers, and I’m my company’s Unit Public Affairs Representative (this is why some of my photos have U.S. Army credits), so I know a bit about the rights of photographers regarding military activities.

So, anyone care to guess the age of the post office based on its architectural style? My guess is mid ’60s, but I have the unfair advantage of knowing that Ft. Bliss was a large basic training base in the ’60s.

Qu’est-ce que c’est, REDDIT? Isn’t that like a lame hipster version of Fark ten years too late? At least that’s the impression of it that I got from Drew’s speech at FarkCon last April.

So there I was, in El Paso for a job application, and I decided to stop by Ft. Bliss to take some picks of the olde tyme brick officers housing. As I was driving past the post office, I noticed the interesting ornamental brickwork over the front of the post office, so I decided to park and snap a few photos. Then a master sergeant and first sergeant showed up. *facepalm* OPSEC… Pakistanis… cell phones…. (Seriously though, if I were taking spy photos of Ft. Bliss, I wouldn’t use a big honking DSLR. And if I was going to use a big honking DSLR, I would get a 600mm lens and take the pics from the top of the adjacent mountains.) After about 6 wrong numbers the MSG finally contacted the MP desk. The first MP car showed up pretty quickly. The MP sergeants were cool, and we swapped some war stories while the second MP car and two SPCs ran my military ID and driver’s license. They said that photography was prohibited on post, which I didn’t know. Then they sent me on my way, and I headed down town for photos of the Bassett Tower and Globe Mills. In conclusion, don’t take pictures on Fort Bliss and watch out for E8s with flat tops.

Sigh, I swear this is the last time I archive dive to my African trip for photos….

There I was this afternoon coming up with examples of stripes in nature, thinking to myself “no one has pics of tigers”. Of course, I forgot, this is Fark, where nothing is too obscure.

So many great pics this week. Good job with the theme everyone. Thanks.

I may be late tonight. I want to catch the midway rides at the county fair for Time On My Hands. I’ll probably hit up the quilt display for this one.
