Striped tree trunks. Striped leaves. Striped fields after they’ve been plowed. Skunks. Chipmunks. Tigers. Zebras. Edge views of sedimentary rocks. Lots of stripes in nature.

Muscle cars. Barber poles. Han Solo’s pants.

Think parallel lines, if it’s not too late to take more pics.

Why did I think today was “Time On My Hands”? This is my own theme for goodness sake.

I like how the green bucket and shirt and part of the shorts contrast the neutral wall and floor color. Plus the use of found objects helps break up the back ground. Also, I’m sure the accoustics in the bucket are amazing. The echo and harmonics must be wonderful.

Yeah. They start with a powder and laser sinter to cross-link the polymers. I’d say it’s comparable to 600 grit sand paper, but not so sharp.

Well, the parts arrived yesterday. I’ve got some dimensional problems. The bayonet angles work fine. The bayonet flanges don’t seem to have enough distance in front of them. Time for the sand paper. The threads work, but they’re really hard to get started. I may need to do some more reading of the Machinery Handbook. Once I get these straightened out, I might design an M42 adapter. How about an FD to EF-M?

My skydrive pics: http://sdrv.ms/QLn8f3 Really huge pics to show surface detail.

A squirrel eh? Tell me about your mother…

    😉

My mom’s awesome. She just celebrated her birthday, and next week she’s visiting NYC for her youngest cousin’s 60th birthday.

Also, she still hopes that I’ll meet a nice gal and settle down. How you doin’?

And not just any squirrel, the squirrel.

Not that I don’t do that already, but I could have sworn this was a theme as well.

Some of these are like Rorschach ink blots….sex and monsters everywhere!

What sort of monsters? Flying monsters?

I swear one of them looks like the squirrel.

Can we get an update on the FArQ?

It still says 640 wide maximum. 🙁

The “fence” is the yellow pickets and rusty cable along the ditch in the 3rd and 4th pics here. The pronounced seam in the concrete through the center of the monument is also the boundary. The place was crawling with La Migra. I literally passed half a dozen trucks and SUVs. There was one parked on the ridge north-west of the monument the whole time I was there. Two vehicles stopped when I was driving down there and spoke with me.

There is not really any “acceptance” aside from uploading them. I suppose if something were incorrect, some editor might eventually stumble across it and remove it.

I might try to go back earlier in the day to get better contrast on the bilingual reverse-relief plaques on the east side. The text is hard to read in the shade. A step ladder would be helpful as well, so I could get a more direct, less oblique, shot.

Butcher paper, card board, and tape, if you’re too cheap for foam core.
Put the subject in the shade.
Focal length equals twice the sensor diagonal to prevent distortion of features.
Use a large aperture prime lens to blur the background or move the subject well forward from the background.
Gray card for custom white balance and exposure.

Point one foot toward the camera and the other at 90 degrees. This rotates the hips and makes the subject appear more slender.
Move ears toward the camera, i.e. head forward, to create a strong jawline and eliminate double chins.
Tell your subject that you’ll be taking some test shots first. This will cause them to relax and act natural.

But you already knew most of this, right?

Dealing with La Migra was a pain as usual, but I think I got some very illustrative shots of Monument #1.

You can never be too rich or have too much memory. My 5 y.o. laptop was like new after I upgraded from 1GB to 4GB last Spring. 🙂 Oh my, indeed!
