ParticipantI can’t wait to see how it all turns out. If the normal lens is 8.5mm, my 85mm would be a 10 power zoom, and my 250 telephoto would be ~30x. I realize the resolving power of your setup with a telescope is not solely dependent on the size of the sensor pixels, but in this case, perhaps a smaller sensor is better.

ParticipantPerhaps I will use Instagram* to take selfies of me using the Crown…it would be ironically meta.
Skinny jeans here I come.
That’s so 2011. You already missed it.
Yeah, skinny jeans have gotten even skinnier and ended up as jeggings. It’s like the retro fashion of the ’80s had retreated even further back to the ’70s.
(It’s a bit peculiar having spent last year in Europe to see fashion and music trends end up in America a year later.)

ParticipantOk, WTF? This is the second week in a row that my entries have been axed due to a broken link. What can I do to prevent this from happening in the future? I’ve never had this problem before, and every time I try to load the images they work just fine.

ParticipantCanon DPP? 😀
I like the results I get with Irfanview with the plug-ins. It’s quick and easy. It does CR2, but I’m not sure about other camera raw formats.

ParticipantThe reason why we allowed digital dodging and burning was because they were originally a darkroom technique that were allowed for film users so they were condidered more of a traditional photography technique.
I respectfully disagree with your historical explanation for the exemption because air-brushing (to remove elements like belly-buttons) was also a film technique, and it’s right out as far as Farktography is concerned. Combining multiple exposures likewise. I would say the rules are the rules the way they are just because that’s the way they are.

ParticipantMeh, the Sistine Chapel wasn’t all that, if you ask me. Of course all the scaffolding inside while they repainted the ceiling sort of detracted from the overall ambiance of the place. Just kidding, they’re were only cleaning and restoring the ceiling, not repainting. But yeah there was scaffolding all through it ca. 1983.
I was a bit worried about bare bosoms being NSFW, but I’m not the only one this week. Wish me luck that my host doesn’t crap out like last week!
p.s. I like the bear smoking a fatty.

ParticipantSure, why not? Get the adapter and put on your longest lens for extreme telephotos.
On the otherhand, that’s a lot of money for a tiny sensor. And even if it is the size of a deck of cards, you still can’t stick it in your pocket for carrying with a big honking lens sticking out the front. Furthermore, a sensor this small is surely an all new design for a mirrorless setup, so why maintain a rectangular format instead of going square to maximize the use of the lens? Ultimately, I’m going to say save your money for some other photography toys.

ParticipantJust the theme I need to whip out all my pics from the Spanish sculpture museum.
What? You’ve never been? You’ve never even heard of it?
Well, if you like polychrome on wood (and come on, who doesn’t love polychrome on wood,) then you’ll love the Spanish sculpture museum.
It’s in Valladolid just down the street from the birthplace of King Felipe II, or as it’s now known the city water utility office.

ParticipantI went with allspice and “Chai spice blend” instead of cinnamon, etc. as listed in the pumpkin pie recipe. I figured since bananas are tropical fruit, I should go with spices a bit more tropical in aroma. Really though, just go with what ever you like. Use the recipe quantities as a guideline.

ParticipantFlossy!
Too bad you decided to go with a cliche.
Can anyone answer me why some photographers love to take pictures of their camera obscuring their face in a mirror?November 26, 2012 at 10:28 pm in reply to: Canonites rejoice! New Canon EOS-M mirrorless announced. #48855Yoyo
ParticipantI think it only has a trailing-curtain-shutter from technical reviews I’ve read. But certainly no need for mirror-lock-up with this baby. Plus the shorter flange to sensor distance gives more flexibility in mounting lenses that Goddess and Canon never intended for Eos cameras. (FD here we come?)
My main purpose for reading the manual was one review implied that there were no P, Tv, Av, or M modes on this one, however after a brief 2 hour skimming of the manual, that is obviously false. The touch screen controls all that, while the digital Rebel hardware with its multi-position mode switch belies its pre-DSLR and pre-touch-screen ancestry.
The Eos M can do everything a T4i can do (as much as I know about the T4i), and certainly more than my T2i.
Multi-exposure HDR and low-light photography, and also improved auto-focus during filming with STM lenses.Yoyo
ParticipantWell, consider all the variations on sweet quick breads and muffins: banana, pumpkin, sweet potato, blue berry, carrot, zucchini,… The sweet and quick parts of all of them are basically the same: oil, sugar, egg, flour, leavening; only the vegetable ingredient changes, so why not do the same thing with pie? Pumpkin pie is basically a custard pie with cooked pumpkin added, likewise for sweet potato pie.
If you want to try it with sliced bananas make sure they’re either very ripe or try steaming them in their skins first so they’re not chewy. The banana slices did not initially float, and there is a second layer below the visible top layer. I recommend carefully laying out a single layer of banana slices all touching first and then pouring in the custard mixture. Also, use a kitchen scale to measure the amount of bananas needed.

ParticipantI just bought this:
PIXMA_Pro9000_Mark_II
…I’m going to have to learn some color profiling to really make them pop, but I am now officially in the printing business.
In the short run, it is probably cheaper to have a lab do my prints, but paper and ink aren’t terribly more expensive than normal inkjet. Still, it’s a big honking printer that can print 13×19 prints that look freaking great
With rebates it’s below $300 at Adorama. http://www.adorama.com/ICAP9000M2.html
I’m considering upgrading from my Canon Pixma 280 (so cheap it’s almost disposable). I get good 4×6 prints from what I’ve got now, but for 120 stereo slides the 600×300 dpi leaves something to be desired.
I was considering the PRO-100, but there aren’t many reviews of it (and even fewer of the PRO-10). Strangely enough, the PRO-1 reviews are less than stellar and most of them complain about the ink consumption.
So, in conclusion, I’m resurrecting this zombie thread instead of starting a new one to ask for advice on printers. What have you got? Canon, Epson, HP,…? What do you like and dislike and recommend?
There are no local print shop in my city. So having the capacity to print at home instead of dealing with shipping would be a good thing.

ParticipantWe did have the transit of Venus this year and a solar eclipse, so I don’t know that waiting for comets is necessary. I do like the idea of adding Season’s Greetings.
