Glad to hear it– all of it!
Elsinore and I were talking as I was tweaking this thing and that under the hood, and I couldn’t tell if it was just confirmation bias, or if the interface really was running faster. It seemed like it was, but… it’s a fine enough difference and I’ve tweaked things before only to have it turn out to not be it, so I didn’t want to get my hopes up.
We were also talking about your login issues, and it sounded like something funky on the client side– glad it was just a browser not playing nice.
And yes, the “spectator” vs “participant” role is specifically to keep the Russian bots who keep registering new users (I see what you’re doing there, kids… no means no) from spamming the crap out of the site.
Welcome back CS!

November 10, 2017 at 3:28 am #53967zekeParticipantElsinore and I just talked, and… we spotted something. Short version, I moved the hosting of the site away from the hosting provided by ProcTex on 10/31. I thought I had the site disabled and locked down… except any admin sessions that were currently logged in at the proceduraltexture.com site were still live.
Elsinore’s session on the old site was still up, so she’s accidentally posted everything over on the old site for the past 10 days or so. Whoops 🙂
She’ll move the posts and get things taken care of soon.
March 15, 2015 at 12:47 am #53507zekeParticipantWhat she said. I was intending balls used in games… doesn’t even need to be spheres, for example American footballs.
February 18, 2015 at 3:46 am #52876zekeParticipantWon’t someone think of the furries?
No. No, I’d really rather not. *shivers in fear*

February 18, 2015 at 3:40 am #53261zekeParticipantHow do you feel about sailors and Marines? 😀
Yes. The intent was to cover anyone serving their country, either currently or previously. I can see where ‘soldier’ may imply a limitation to only those in the army, and that was not the intent. I’ve reworded it a bit.
February 18, 2015 at 3:37 am #53392zekeParticipantIncluding unauthorized imitations, like Crabs Adjusting Humidity or Farking Cards Man?
+1After giving it some thought, opening up to outside groups would make it a LOT more difficult to manage. I could print some cards, call it my own unauthorized imitation, and do just about anything.
I’d rather we keep it to the official CAH released sets.
January 25, 2015 at 9:45 pm #53473zekeParticipantI have no problems with any of those things. They all look delicious. Except the pecans.
January 16, 2015 at 7:59 am #53151zekeParticipantI just posted a ton of theme suggestions… I went back to the well in many cases to see what tended to do well for participation
Oops, I did it again.
(Go look! Vote! Tell me what you like and what sucks!)
September 17, 2014 at 4:59 am #53245zekeParticipantI would go with it again, and Im pretty certain the first tilt shift one was one of the highest vote totals ever.
214 Jun 10, 2009 Tilt-Shift Faked Miniature Scenes By using either a tilt-shift lens, a DIY option such as a toilet-plunger tilt-shift, or one of many software solutions, create your own photo that looks like a miniature set, but isn’t.
67 entrants
149 entries
2590 total votesThe number of entrants and entries was nothing terribly special. On this one, it was the total votes that got my attention. Not quite one of the highest ever, but it was a pretty big spike in traffic in getting Farkers into the FT thread.
Camera tech has come a long way in the last 5 years, and most digicams and DSLRs have it built in as a creative option, so the level of effort for people to give it a whirl is pretty low.
Then again, I reserve the right for any of these ideas to be a complete bust 🙂
September 17, 2014 at 4:52 am #53300zekeParticipantKD9BSB, at your service 🙂 I just recently reactivated my license. My physics teacher in high school (1990) got a crew of us into it, got us through our novice exam, and then a few of us got our tech class license. I let it slip, and didn’t get the paperwork filed with the FCC to renew it. Well, recently I felt the urge to get my license reactivated, so I knuckled down and knocked out the tech class exam a couple months ago. There were only two of us there, and the VE team talked the two of us into taking the general exam since hey, free test, no risk. Close, but no cigar.
Anywho… skywarn, eh? What all is expected/required/involved?

But what’s the difference between a moped and a motorized scooter to disqualify one but not the other?Because those were the rules the first time around, and I didn’t notice? 😉
http://www.bibliostats.com/farktography/contest/9September 13, 2014 at 9:03 pm #53147zekeParticipantYeah, all this. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Part of the issue is we all have stuff going on, and we’re all very busy adults with many important things to do. So, we need to draw in fresh blood. Without new people coming in, attrition will only get worse.
I just posted a ton of theme suggestions… I went back to the well in many cases to see what tended to do well for participation, both from number of contestants as well as raw number of votes (which means we KNOW people were in the thread and looking). What I’m going for is accessibility… themes that people can relate to, are interested in, and can say ‘yeah, I’ve got a couple of those pictures, let me post them.’ Also, I went for themes that people saw in Fark headlines in the past that clearly drew traffic.
Please, everyone take a quick pass through the Themes board, and start voting for the ones you’d like to do!
