^^this^^ I agree with it.
May 4, 2011 at 4:19 pm #13684ravnosticParticipanta single cloud with a vague resemblance to a squirrel with a pair of giant nuts.
Someone, please take this pikchure. 😆
May 4, 2011 at 4:44 pm #13683CauseISaidSoParticipantFor example: the presence or absence of the clouds wouldn’t change the focus, subject or tone
I like that. That’s a good test criterion, I think.
May 4, 2011 at 5:17 pm #13554ennuipoetParticipantFWIW I’m okay with ennuipoet‘s image. Time for another patented “Kes Litmus Test”: Rather than “clouds are a majority of the image” maybe “are the clouds an integral part of the image”? For example: the presence or absence of the clouds wouldn’t change the focus, subject or tone of kat‘s picture but the presence or absence of clouds drastically changes ennuipoet‘s.
Or for another example: Say someone posted an image that was 75% empty blue sky but contained a single cloud with a vague resemblance to a squirrel with a pair of giant nuts. It’s only 25% cloud but I don’t think we would DQ it.
I actually don’t think I am going to use this one, but I wanted to have a back up in case I had a failure of faith in my entries.

I could MAKE that picture, but that is an entirely different contest, all together.

May 4, 2011 at 10:28 pm #13651CuriousParticipantone of mine wouldn’t pass the 51% thing but the cloud is slap in the center of the frame and (i think) obviously the subject of the shot. the other elements are for composition.
actually the cloud is probably <20% of the frame but i shot that frame just for the cloud. took it one day in my front yard just because i liked the cloud and the way it fit between the trees. of my other two one is scapish and the other semi scapish. i passed on shots that had cloud backgrounds because they weren't really shot as cloud pictures. although a couple are nice.

May 4, 2011 at 11:46 pm #13649linguineParticipantIs something like this cloudscapey enough or is there too much ground in it? http://www.flickr.com/photos/guine/532617043/
May 4, 2011 at 11:53 pm #13648lokisbongParticipantSeems good to me. What ground is there is just silhouette and didn’t seem like the focus of the picture to me.
May 4, 2011 at 11:58 pm #13647FarktographerParticipantIt gets my seal of approval, ‘guine.
Also, sweet b’s, miller! I suddenly have an overwhelming feeling of inadequate-ness.
Also, also: I try not to do this, but I’m having issues selecting some photos. I have one that I know I’m using, one that I’m pretty sure I’m going to use, but I can’t trim the last one from these selections. Any suggestions?
Chicago: I like how the buildings reflect clouds, but didn’t know if that took too much away from the cloudscape feel

Taiwan: They have phenomenal cloudscapes there – unfortunately, it was before I really knew how to use my camera

Los Angeles: Just a simple shot that burns naturally red
