ParticipantAwesome shots. I wish we got more variety of interesting moths here in AZ. I’ve got a few of a Rustic Sphinx feeding on a night-blooming Easter Lily, but that’s about it.
Most of them are just grey or brown.

ParticipantPersonally, I’m not too keen on a camera that lets the viewer select the focus of the result – for a documentarian, it might be a good thing. For me? Not so much.

ParticipantI’m 5.5 ft tall so I don’t need a really tall tripod.
Another note on “stability” – raising the center column on a tripod makes it less stable.
My next tripod may not have a center column at all if I can avoid it, but I do use it sometimes by inverting the column to get the camera closer to the ground…

ParticipantAs for wind, I’ve yet to find ANY tripod that can keep a long exposure steady enough for sharp imaging with a 300mm and lens hood in place. I’m tempted to carry sand bags in the car to drape over the camera on days like that.
Don’t drape them over the camera – hang them from the tripod, but touching the ground so they don’t swing or “pendulum” in the wind.
I use a pair of heavy bungee cords and my camera bag under my tripod when I’m out shooting storms – the cords put just enough tension on the bag that it doesn’t quite leave the ground.

Participantinstead of ex-girlfriend she would be refereed to as “the defendant”. there is no excuse for that level of damage. and to his working tools? oh hell no. the suit would be for replacement glass and all income lost.
A buddy of mine says, “Nothing wrong with her that couldn’t be fixed with a busted 80-200mm suppository…”

ParticipantYou could be the next Anne Geddes!
Well…. after the surgery.
😕

ParticipantWow, relationship be damned, I would probably sue her.
Over here that’d be a class 5 felony (at least) on top of the civil suit. Jail time, 9 months to two years. Criminal damage, possibly aggravated, in excess of $2,000 but less than $10,000…

ParticipantWatch out for banjo music echoing from the trees.
A buddy of mine was born in a small town in West Virginia. He left as soon as possible.
He claims the #1 best-selling greeting card there is “Happy Birthday, Uncle Dad!”

ParticipantOK. We’re tentative for Saturday, July 16th. Who’s got a good meeting spot, or shall we keep an eye on the storm tracks and see about spending that evening near a hot spot?

Participant(I’ve lived in Louisiana and Arizona both, and I’ll take the desert heat any day over the muggy torture that is the bayous).
I’ve spent some time in Atlanta in August. I’ll take the desert heat, even if it’s 105 degrees out just after a dust storm and raining hot mud on me.

ParticipantI propose setting up a “TBD” meeting in Phoenix. Weather’s going to be unpredictable, of course, but I’m up for a good Friday or Saturday night storm. Predictions show mid-July as higher probability than any earlier.

Participant…I hope I can give caradoc a run for his money this year!
I have been informed by my wife that my stormchasing will be rather limited this summer while I’m helping care for the baby.
