Standard NTSC video is 648×486 interlaced (or 314928 bare pixels at 156464 pixels per frame) while the QV-1000C was apparently doing 380000 pixels per frame, noninterlaced, recording to a floppy disc instead of a streaming tape.

Perhaps, but it’s invited. Share, and may you never thirst. 😀

Never used the Canon mount, but I think the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 is one of the best bang-for-the-buck lenses out there. I use a Nikon mount Tamron 90mm for macro and portraiture. I put some example photos in Plamadude30k’s thread.

    Bloody hell….
Nice bit of quick thinking at the end by the salesman guy, though.

Not really. He’s going to be spending a lot of time in “support” with that customer if the sale actually happens.

(I used to work for CompUSA back in the early ’90s. Whenever a salesperson pulled a stunt like that, that customer was theirs for life.)

Seems like it wouldn’t be cumbersome if you’re wearing a tight-enough belt or backpack, but if you just have it strapped to a loose backpack then I can see it swinging around pretty easily (like a normal neckstrap, though). I like this idea.

Seems to me that this clip system would dovetail perfectly with a “Sam Browne”-style belt-and-strap.

Optesting with a flashlight and remote control was sat, but haven’t had a t-storm with active flashes yet.

Find something that’ll generate an arc, like a stun gun, a Tesla coil, a Jacob’s Ladder, or use any IR source (assuming you’re using an IR-sensitive phototransistor or other sensor – obviously, an IR source isn’t going to help for RF-based lightning detection.)

I used my TV remote to initially test my lightning trigger, since it functions by detecting a sudden rise in ambient IR, followed by a test with a stun gun.

You need one that generates more than one arc, though – a single snap doesn’t last long enough to verify the image since the camera’s going to have a delay of 35 to 80 ms from trigger-to-shutter.

Bang for the buck, I dearly love my Tamron 90mm f/2.8. Works fine on a D7000, but has some AF issues for video/Live View. However, since I don’t do much video and I primarily use Live View for manual focus for macro work, it doesn’t bother me at all.

Works great for portraiture and macro:
