If you haven’t already seen this site it’s worth a look, too.

Also, I think we just set a record for longest post-theme threadjack.

If it’s post-theme, is it really a threadjack?

If we Nerf the world how will we keep the population in check. The best way to learn is from our mistakes if they don’t outright kill us.

I say we just remove all of the warning labels and let natural selection run its course.

Poe’s Theorem of Evolution: “Natural selection has been supplanted by science and/or technology such that now we have persons in positions of authority and/or responsibility who are so stupid that merely two hundred years ago they would have been eaten by something whilst on their way to the outhouse.”

Your friends and relatives should grow a pair. In my opinion. That book looks like it kicks ass!

I happen to agree. I believe that it is important for people to learn (perhaps painfully if necessary) that the world is not a safe place, and there’s only one person you can really trust for your own safety…

Just got word a few minutes ago. See #1 and #8 on Weather Underground’s World View for Aug 30.

Ha! How’s a boy supposed to learn his science if there aren’t a few fires or explosions involved?

My friends and relatives say I’m not allowed to give copies of this to their kids any more.

Some things I generally do – when possible:

    1) Stay off the ridgelines. The tops get struck more often than the bottoms.
    2) Stay out of the valley bottoms – flash floods suck.
    3) If there are high-voltage lines nearby, figure the distance that might be covered if the lines fall, and set up just outside that radius. Lightning is more likely to strike the tops of the towers than the ground near them… but you also want to be safe if the lines fall.
    4) I occasionally shoot from inside the car, with the camera clamped to the window. This isn’t always a good way to do it, especially if the wind is enough to rock the car.
    5) If I can’t be inside the car, I set the camera up and lock the shutter cable to bang away on whatever exposures I’m shooting, then get away from the tripod and cop a squat on a rock or something a bit lower than the tripod. I’d rather blow up a camera than be struck myself.

This was as close as I ever want to be: the bolt struck somewhere within a half mile to my left and slightly behind me…

Working on a gallery. Currently, most of my prints are on display in a local Audi/Volkswagen service shop’s customer lounge.

Yes, I like the stars in that one – or in this one:

…but I’m also liking the barely-visible details in the foreground of some like this one:

    Thanks, chupa!

I’m also debating a large print of this one for framing…

    Thanks, everyone.

I just love going out into the desert during the storms – occasionally, I can’t even get out of the car if I’ve misjudged the track and end up underneath it…

A view of Weaver’s Needle (the Lost Dutchman Mine is supposed to lie in its shadow) from the Four Peaks Wilderness Area:

I almost feel like a failure. I know the voters are fickle but geeze the picture I liked most has gotten 2 votes other than my vote. Well maybe next week I will have better luck.

I’ve given up entirely on predicting the predilections of Farkers.

If anyone wants to argue the point, U-Man, tell them that the brush-hook is the antecedent to the Brown Bill.
