ParticipantI have 145 people whose contact info I have to track down and I’m starting with the farktography.net membership list and may not finish today.
And the faster respondents get better placement in the book, right?

ParticipantI only hope incendiary devices are fair game. If you can’t blow things up, what’s the point of living?
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, “You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done.”

ParticipantSaturday was a bit surreal. We’d gotten off I-10 and headed a bit south on a dirt road to get away from traffic. There was one cell due west of us tracking toward the northwest, and another cell due east of us, also tracking northwest.
We’d crossed a cattle guard to get to that spot, but didn’t see any cows. We heard them, though. Lightning would flash, my shutter would click, the flashes would beep to indicate cycle, the thunder would rumble, and some cow over the hill would moo loudly.
Every time.
(Flash) – (click) – (beep) – (thunder) – “MOO!” It was like a bizarre symphony.

ParticipantWent on a road trip Saturday down toward Tombstone, AZ – didn’t get there, as the storm had already passed northwesterly. So we stopped and got the shot I was looking for anyway:
Yes, those shoes belong to Chase Jarvis. D80 fired from lightning trigger, bare SB-800 at high camera right fired by CLS/AWL via the D80 pop-up flash. This is part of a project to shoot Chase Jarvis’ shoes for charity.

ParticipantThe Flickr Astrometry group has a solver-bot that will examine photographs and identify celestial objects in them.
See my above Perseid shot as an example – just dropping the image in the group pool will get the bot’s attention.

ParticipantI don’t think I’ve ever driven the wheels off a car like I did to my 1998 Subaru Forester. I had it for 9 years in a town with a closed road system where the road goes 40 miles north of town and then stops. I bought it used in 2001, and put over 125,000 miles on it and it only left town once on the ferry. There’s not a stretch of back road here that it didn’t take me down, often in unplowed snow that was nearly up to the axles.
Love my Forester. Bought it new in 2002 because it was only $2000 more for the new 2002 than for the used 2000 with 45K miles on it…
I’ve since put over 135K miles on it – mostly chasing storms around Arizona, but it’s also seen time in snow, sleet, and f’ing blazing desert heat.
I’m on my third set of CV boots now, second set of rack boots… other than those minor bits, I’ve had no mechanical issues with it at all.

ParticipantCaradoc I do hope that copy of Stranger in a Strange Land is the unabridged version his wife put out, and not that mini-version he was forced to publish way back in the day?
I have both. Look closer.

ParticipantI’ve used it on a D80 – the only DSLR body I have at the moment.

ParticipantI’ve got the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, Nikon mount. Thrilled with it for the price.
I will probably never own a Sigma – too many friends with too many problems, including one who sent the lens in for servicing and got it back with the hood mounting ring cracked.

ParticipantNow this… this is luck:
My poor old D80’s a bit slower on the draw than a D300 – so I caught more of the repeated stroke than my friend did, about fifty feet away:
We’re using almost identical triggers, but his trigger-to-shutter on the D300 beats me by about 25ms or so, so he missed the second half of that particular strike.
