grrrreat. my one flying bird picture is entirely out of focus. the only good thing you can say for it is that everything in the picture is out of focus, not just the bird. How my camera managed that, I’m not sure, since it doesn’t have a manual focus option and thus had to think it was focusing on *something* lol

we live close to the airport they’ve been using to fill up the planes that are taking water to the wildfires — for some days they were flying right over our house over and over and over. however, we have lots of trees. also, aforementioned equipment issues would have forced me to use the husband’s camera — not that he’d begrudge me that, he’s a nice guy. 😉

oh well — I know this contest doesn’t play to what meager strengths i might have at this point in my barely begun hobby … I like the idea, but … 😉

I seem to have massive quantities of pix of winged creatures just standing around letting me take their pictures. *shrug* Maybe i need to be scarier.

I think i have one picture — one — that can qualify for this contest and there is very little hope that i can take a new one that qualifies with the equipment, time and resources I have. I might have had more of the latter two elements if I had not thought i’d be in canada and away from teh internets for this contest, but my plans changed, so I guess I’ll at least enter what i have. =P

/ps so pleased at the monty python jokes in here. 😀

i ended up being too sick to go out to do any shooting. 🙁 so i just now woke up, wracked my brains and photo albums and posted a couple that i hope people just find interesting as pictures even though they still fit my meaning to me. *sigh* I hope this (my problem, not the contest) is over soon….

Show up at your neighbor’s door and politely ask “May I have permission to shoot your cats for a contest?”

keeping your hands behind your back so as not to scare them with your…. camera. 😀

Set the timer then climb in a pickle!
THERE ARE WORDS AND PHRASES EVERYWHERE!
Words won’t know you’re whoring about town with other words.

    *giggle* well put.

moderator – can you tell a n00b the easiest way to search for old farktography contests?

The Farktography Statistics Manager maintains a history of all past contests. Just go to the home page and use the selection box on the left hand side to find ‘Blue’ and then click the ‘show’ button. Someday, I really should make that easier…

Or you can just go to Blue directly. Blue came out before the FSM really got rolling, so some of the images did not get archived, but most are there. I got a tear in my eye after looking at some of the names of those who are no longer with us(*).

/(*) not that they died or anything

heehee. and thanks very much for the link. and for all your work on the FSM. 🙂

moderator – can you tell a n00b the easiest way to search for old farktography contests? I totally coincidentally took a predominantly blue picture on Friday and while the subject is fairly interesting the blue bit not so much. I’d like to see how the subject was handled the first go round. Thanks!

I think the idea was to have the image speak for itself, but if millera9 can clarify, that would be great. I’m under the impression that putting a hint in the file name or on the hosting page (e.g. Flickr) that the image links to would be fair game. But again, clarification would be welcome.

yeah, nobody would guess mine (six words long, just one sentence from a somewhat obscure book… yeah, no chance lol) … so i’ll have to hope that someone just happens to like the shots. Well chances are that at least one person will like at least one of them, right? RIGHT? heeheehee

haha! So my “phrase” has the word “perspective” in it (explaining the post above) and yesterday I said to my husband “For my perspective project I was thinking about lying at the base of a tree and shooting up.” After one heartbeat I heard what I had said and laughed helplessly for several minutes while he said helpful things along the lines of “well that would sure change your perspective” and “there’s some folks down by the river who might want to join you” and “maybe you should talk to some counselors at the methadone clinic before you take a step like this”. 😛

thanks y’all some of that did help. i think there’s a gap between my visual brain and my word brain… but i don’t think that’s all that uncommon, even if it’s less than desirable. My husband saw me posting the pix above so I told him about my question and we ran through a bunch of my pix and his (he’s an amateur hobbyist as well, a bit further along the road and with better equipment lol) and we talked about which pictures of both of ours worked and which didn’t and I started to get a feel for why. … And ended up — again — not really being able to put it into words very well, but with a better understanding.

Yeah, only “The Suggestion of Thirds” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

    heeheehee

okay, but what i was getting at was the mechanics — i guess in a psychological sense, more than a technical sense — of the placement of the horizon.

I really like a lot of my Joshua Tree pix (the ones I chose for my first post aren’t necessarily my favorites, I chose them for the purposes of the “Rules”) but I don’t know if my idea of a “good” landscape photograph is the same thing as what “most people” would like. It’s something I’d like to know more about before I start shooting more lush areas. After all, I also like pictures of bugs, and a lot of people find those really creepy. 🙂

examples of ones I particularly like this morning 😉

/please do excuse my overuse of quotation marks in this post. 😛

It occurred to me today that my “phrase” is excellently — almost embarrassingly — suited to photography. Which would be better news if I were a great photographer. 😛 So I set my brain a-working on additional ideas for the theme… and thought of one photo, anyway, already taken, that I can use. I use the concept — not the photography concept, the phrase concept — in my daily life, so i might could try to put my photography mind in that gear.

/blah blah blah – just so neat to see all the awesome pix in the contests and to get the little warm fuzzies that come from even a couple of people voting for my pix. 😀

So this theme might end up being subtitled “I’ve got a kid and I’m not afraid to use him/her”? 😉

My favorite one that I am entering is a brake rotor (no bike or anything, just the rotor). I might use a cat and go for some of that “Aww cute!” pie.

well there is a cat theme coming up, i saw…. so you could save your kitty for that. 😉
