Is there anything more recent or is that the latest set of rules that we’ve been using? In these it doesn’t specifically say burning and dodging but it allows for image corrections and in the discussion the allowing of burning and dodging seemed to get fairly good support.

Im not going to claim the rules are perfectly consistent, but that was part of the reasoning from when we changed the rules to allow burning and dodging(even if I can’t find that thread right now)

The reason why we allowed digital dodging and burning was because they were originally a darkroom technique that were allowed for film users so they were condidered more of a traditional photography technique.

I respectfully disagree with your historical explanation for the exemption because air-brushing (to remove elements like belly-buttons) was also a film technique, and it’s right out as far as Farktography is concerned. Combining multiple exposures likewise. I would say the rules are the rules the way they are just because that’s the way they are.

My vote would be allow that image, otherwise we would be having to follow a fine line and I could see people that don’t come to this forum thinking stuff like that is allowed in this contest.

I’m in California for about 6 months so I’m pretty safe from the Frankenstorm. Just have to hope I don’t fall into a giant hole during an earthquake since the San Andreas Fault is about 5 miles away. On the plus side, after last weekend I now know its possible to party hard enough to miss a 5.3 thats about 20 miles away.

I may actually have 3 shots that I took today that are looking better than I originally thought now that I am working on them on a computer so I’ll see how they turn out and use them first if they work.

So how important is it to be certain that it was a 5 second exposure? Given my dearth of “Halloween” pics, are graveyard shots acceptable? Are graveyard shots acceptable if I can fake a ghost? Let’s say I get the urge, are pumpkins and gourds OK?

Im fine going either way but we’ve done the halloween contest starting on halloween night before and just off the top of my head I don’t remember the voting being horribly low then.
