LovesandwichParticipantYeah, there are some themes that fall right into that description, for sure. I try to separate quality from content when voting, but I don’t think most voters do.
Same here. I think that I appreciate the attempts of some photographers to make a photograph instead of just a picture out of the signs. And to be honest, it isn’t always easy to make art out of a theme like this.
But if themes like this attract attention and get more people involved with the contest that it must be good. 😉
LovesandwichParticipantI did an architecture walk the other day through Vancouver, and I gotta say, there aren’t any ugly buildings in Vancouver. And in all of the places in the world that I have been, I only know of one particular “ugly” building and it is considered in the art world to be a work of art.
About the only real ugly buildings that I know of are/were in Berlin and housed the communist party back during the east/west split and I am pretty sure that I didn’t bother getting photos of those. 😉
This one is gonna be tough.
LovesandwichParticipantDoes anyone else have a hard time voting for these particular contests? These types of contests seem to be more about what cool/odd/different types of sign you can find and less about photography skill.
That said, there are some cool signs in this world!
LovesandwichParticipantI wish that I knew why the forum created so many copies of the same thing. Weird.

faggot or esp ( US ) fagot 1 (?fæ??t)noun
1. a bundle of sticks or twigs, esp when bound together and used as fuel
2. a bundle of iron bars, esp a box formed by four pieces of wrought iron and filled with scrap to be forged into wrought iron

6. needlework to do faggoting on (a garment, piece of cloth, etc)from Old French, perhaps from Greek phakelos bundle
I found that in Europe, where this is appears to be from, faggot or fag tends to mean a cigarette. Hence, since this doesn’t appear to be derogatory in anyway, I would let it stand. 🙂

LovesandwichParticipantHmmm…few months late here but on topic all the same.
I have been with Farktography from right near the start with a lot of contests entered. However, I have also missed quite a lot of contests due to the fact that I work shift work and am at work for a lot of Wednesday nights.
Recently, I started working straight graveyard shift in a 4 on 4 off pattern, so my days off rotate during the week. This screws up my sense of what day it is a lot of the time and I miss Wednesdays on my days off because of that, and also because I am at work a lot of the times when the contest goes live.
I have also lived and worked in France, where sorting out what time of day it is on Fark became a challenge as well and I missed a lot of contests.
Having the ability now to post up early, without the voting of course, makes things so much easier for those of us who work and live different to what is considered “the norm”. Now I am able to log into Fark, take a look and see that there is a contest pending and load up photos so that I don’t miss the contest. This makes me very happy.
This also helps boost the numbers of contest participants, since we now cater to those who work odd shifts or live in different time zones around the world. Hopefully this will boost awareness as well of the non-participants so that we can get more people checking out our work.
In the end, I think that this is a big win for all of us. To be honest, I have never not posted because I see that someone has posted up a kick ass photo that I have no chance against. Seeing what everyone has posted and being able to enjoy those photos makes me happier than trying to remember to look for the contest or remembering that I missed it because I was working.
Now if we could just find a way to keep Farktography at the top of the main page for 24 hours after it goes live…;)
LovesandwichParticipantSquare photos?
Oh to have a medium format camera right now!
