LovesandwichParticipantThe only time that I have ever had a problem was on top of the Rockefeller Center doing some night photos of NYC. I wanted to use my tripod and she came over and said no, it was a tripping hazard. I pointed out that on this big roof, I was the only one up there other than her and she had a camera on a tripod set up. She then flashed her rent-a-cop badge and got all power trippy on me and made the rest of my stay up there miserable.
I have been asked by some homeless in an alley in Vancouver if I was going to take their photos, and I replied “Only if you want me to”. It was a good approach and we had a laugh and they shared some of their very cheap whiskey with me (more like battery acid than whiskey).
I think that the biggest problem with people attitudes is ignorance. They think nothing of people taking photos with point and shoots or mobile phones, which take just as good of photos as SLR’s, but as soon as they see the SLR they think that you are paparazzi or something and it is the ignorance that gets things going.
Lenny, I hope that you crazy neighbour chills out a bit and you don’t have any more incidences with him. =)
LovesandwichParticipantVotes or not, there are some seriously fantastic photos this week! Well done everyone!
LovesandwichParticipantI am really happy with some of the photos…you guys take amazing photos!
Shame that the votes are so low these days though…when the winning photo only has 11 votes it makes me sad.
LovesandwichParticipantMy thought was the hour before the sun is technically above or below the horizon, and not AT the sun as then you get a sunset shot. Ravnostics bunny, Linguine’s cactus or my wheat fields are good examples of what I was hoping for the contest…something with the golden sunlight shining on it. However, being that it is hard to police, I would say that as long as the sun was above the horizon, and the light in the sky wasn’t reds, blues or purples, it shall pass. 😀
Oooh…wakitu’s water skier nails it!
LovesandwichParticipantObviously, that’s going to be tricky to police, and I’m not going to go looking for a hard line at 60 minutes prior to local sunset/after local sunrise, but photos taken after sunset obviously don’t qualify.
The farther north (or if in Australia, south) that one goes, specially in summer, the longer the golden hour will last. Hard to judge time on a photo. 😉

LovesandwichParticipantAll of the big glass coming out over the next decade or so has me really excited about the time that we live in for astronomy.
Of course, there will be Instagrams from those big scopes of some alien’s lunch. 😛
LovesandwichParticipantSunset = BAD.

Crash landing in the sun by travelcedric, on FlickrGolden Light = GOOD

Tranquility by travelcedric, on FlickrBasically, don’t take photos of the sunset/sunrise. Look for the golden light shining down on objects, giving them that warm and wonderful glow. Golden sunlight on a building, mountain, statue, tree, whatever, as long as you aren’t shooting into a sunset/sunrise. We aren’t looking for the oranges and reds of a sunset/sunrise sky.
Hope that clears it up a bit. 😀
LovesandwichParticipantBut I broke my Femur/hip Monday, and am currently on high levels of Vicadin-like pills; I don’t trust my processing skills right now.
Maybe next week I’ll be more mended and less medicated.
Oooh! Heal up quick Rav!
Maybe, to help you out, we need to have a “In a hospital” theme…you would win hands down!
😛
