ParticipantI dunno…seems really clean, but where are the stars? For the casual shooter, though, it’s a gimme. I’m going for the hard route chupa mentioned (and…it is hardz). Too bad rain is moving in just when I get my days off this week. Sux.

ParticipantVery cool! I was tempted to go the full IR route and then just stack them with the regular shots, but in the end, I’ve opted just to remove the IR filter so I can get the further spectrum in addition to the regular one.

ParticipantWhoo-hoo! Cost to repair the xTi and remove the IR filter only $200! I told ’em to giterdun! Unfortunately, it’s going to take a few weeks as the parts aren’t in stock to repair the mirror/sensor. :o(. I’m going with the option to just remove the filter, and leave the ability to see ‘color’ as well as IR, intact.

Participant“Yeah, um; I’m not in to ‘scat’; may I have the pat-down please?”
I think this would go over well.

Participantlolz at orionid.

Participantsleeping can’t wait to see!
orionid; I read the interwebz manual on the surgery and wouldn’t dare. Kudos–I bow to your geekdom techie prowess.
I want to capture the added wavelengths to my astrophotos. But I’d consider the ability to get stuff like you do a bonus. I’d happily buy some filters to achieve this–esp. as I did okay at the casino today so this has become something of a freebie project. 😉

Wait till you get to the bottom of the bag, staplermofo 😛 😈 💡 😀 8) 😆 😉

Participantbased on chupaand sleeping alone; I guess I’d like to got toward the I/R removal, keeping the rest intact. I LIKE the effect in the image sleeping posted. A desert environment like mine might make use of that…
The main purposing of the camera, though, would be astro related. Anything I got more terrestrial than that, I’d just consider a bonus.

ParticipantThe responses I got from my frequent flyer program on notification as to exactly why I’d done so were… interesting.

Do tell. I love a good story.

ParticipantChupa, Orionid,
I’ve taken the dead xTi into the resurrectionists…I’ll get the mirror fixed, but while they’re in there…
Should I convert to IR only (and if so can I stack with the reg. RGB astro shots?), or go for the IR filterless, but still keep the RGB pass?
I like the idea of having the IR only for the potential outside the astrophotography…but, can I stack an all-IR astro shot with an RGB astro shot? And insofar as the sky is concerned–IR seems limited, since our atmosphere kinda blocks things all together…but–that’s what the interwebz say should be done for good astro shots.
I haz confuzed. Input would be helpful–from anyone who knows more than me, which is most everyone here.

ParticipantInteresting. I look forward to the results, but not so much about the chem-trail backlash. Wish I could be there to shoot it!

Participantiwantoeatyourchildren Your camera probably isn’t able to work with such large cards. With my xTi, I bought a 16 gig. it re-formated to 8 Gb, then would fail. in the instruction manual, I learned 8G was the maximum the camera could accept. Someone here bought the 16 gig from me.

ParticipantFWIW, I kinda stopped shooting the jpegs with the raws in my new 2Ti body. at 25mb each image, I figured the jpeg was just wasting card space. But when I get a collection of larger cards (and that’s going to happen), I’ll go back for the same reasons others do, apparently.

ParticipantNice stuff there, chupa. Starizona is where I get my stuff. Mom and Pop operation, but they know they’re stuff.
