but I found three I like better together.
I saw them before took ’em down. Here’s what I was going to say…
Plus those suck and there are going to be a lot of entries just like ’em.
/obviously kidding. 🙂
//looking forward to seeing the choices that are better than those.January 21, 2009 at 8:05 pm #20351U-ManParticipant/Farktography is fun…
I don’t consider my life as lame and I still think this is fun.
/Now that I think about it, I bet that alot of folks would consider having a difficult job, a wife and three kids as lame.
//They can piss off. I like it. 🙂January 21, 2009 at 8:21 pm #20352bucky_baconParticipantAhhh nuts, you know that’s not what I meant. This would still be loads of fun even if I was wicked awesome. Two completely independent statements.
Although it was the ‘Sixty hour work week, stuck at home in the country with the baby the rest of the time and can’t get out of the house to shoot photos’ life that was declared ‘sooper lame.’ And all totally tongue in cheek of course 🙂
/disclaimer: I love my wife and daughter, just in case either of them ever ends up here.

Add two more daughters and we have similiar situations.
And don’t get me wrong, I like my life and love my kids and wife. That doesn’t preclude me from getting pissed off and selfish every now and again.
January 21, 2009 at 8:41 pm #20354sooshParticipantsorry. I saw the three together on one monitor against my other choice on the second monitor and realized I hadn’t made up my mind yet.

//They can piss off. I like it.I’m definately with you on the difficult job. But, it’s also got the ability to get really exciting at times. And I’m honestly looking forard to the whole wife and three kids thing once the job shift to a slightly less difficult form (ie. commercial power ops somewhere in VA, PA, or the midwest). But I still enjoy Farktography. It’s probably my number two hobby behind working on my cars (when I can afford to or weather permits).
/reccomends taking a 360 foot long sewer pipe, stuffing it full with jet fuel, 450V-3-phase AC, diesel fuel, self-oxygenating torpedo fuel, somewhere between four and twenty-four warheads, 4500 PSI air, 3000 PSI hydraulics, several-hundred degree steam systems, a nuclear reactor, and 135 of your closest friends, then, weld it shut at both ends, take it out to sea, and sink it on purpose.

I find this silly little photo contest to be a great distraction from the hectic pace of everyday life.
Add to it a spouse who can’t fathom the enjoyment I get from the sound of a shutter clicking and why I bother with a contest that doesn’t have a prize, you can see why some weeks are tougher than others to get the shots I want.
Although she is starting to realize that no matter how much she protests I am going to do it anyway.( She actually reminded me last week that it was Wednesday and “Don’t you have to go post your photos” 🙄 )Ah..the fun of being married over 20 years!
January 21, 2009 at 8:53 pm #20357orionidParticipantDraughts. I missed it.

same boat here, 3 young daughters and a tough work schedule, I have not been out taking pictures in what seems like forever.

Although she is starting to realize that no matter how much she protests I am going to do it anyway.Ha! When I started explaining the contests to the Mrs. and going on about how much I’d love to get a win or even a top 10 she asked “What do you win?” And she was so confused when I replied, “Errr… nothing?” Why would you spend time, money, effort etc. on a contest with “no prize.”
It’s a challenge. You get some parameters and have to see what you can find to fill them. And it’s competition, and I’m a guy, so I have to win. Plus you guys are pretty swell.
A lot of us are probably in the same little boat I’d say.

Definately. After seven years and one hickup, my girl understands completely that I go through phases of hobbies, but never really give any of them up. She also knows that where she may not understand, there are in fact things that are better than porn (although porn is pretty high on the list of great things).
Things she agrees:
Deep, lopy idles coming out of a tuned exaust
The smell of a hot carburetor
The thrill of taking a good photgraph
People-watching in a public venueThings that boggle her mind:
The thrill of high-speed, high impact paintball
Hunting/fishing

Except, my current car, a Subaru Forrester, is so quiet at idle that it is hard to tell if it is even on, much less making anything resembling a cool sound. Not even a hand on the dashboard gives any clue as to whether it is on.
I like how much farktography challenges and inspires me.
I wouldn’t have gone down to Colorado springs to take a picture of the incredible Cadet Chapel without a little bit of inticement.January 21, 2009 at 9:32 pm #20362olavfParticipantHa! Could be worse, the Mrs. and I both do this… Fortunately we haven’t hit the situation (yet) where both of us want to use effectively the same shots… (it can happen when you’re out in the field) Came close this week though. But I managed to get out of it without being relegated to the sofa.

Agreed here.
I’m extremely competitive, and most people who know me well know this better than I do. As such, I’ve actually shifted in the last few years to things where I’m competing against myself to try to do better than before, example: No more 1/4 mile drags. Now I’m looking at Bonneville just for shits and giggles. And rediculous speed.January 22, 2009 at 1:06 am #20364ElsinoreKeymasterContest linky: http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=4159405
