KeymasterI’m struggling with where and if I should draw a line on how close “up close and personal” is. I guess we should let the chips fall where they may with the voters.
As for the monkey, my initial thought also was that the theme description didn’t require humans, but “strangers” certainly implies humans.

ParticipantYeah, but the “get up close and personal” aspect is missing in a bunch of these (including that one). It appears the voters have noticed, however, so I’m not going to stamp my feet and get pissy.
I noticed this too–and placed my votes accordingly, with regard to telephoto especially (where it just seems so blatantly obviously so).
Part of farktography, in my heart, is learning to face a photographic challenge head on and do your best. I’ve won, and I’ve failed utterly. But I wouldn’t be 1/2 the photographer today (for whatever it’s worth) if I didn’t try.
I credit my Tucson Photowalk for giving me the guts to just go up and ask people to take their picture. Being surrounded by 15 other DSLR endowed persons kinda helped, though–added some legitimacy.
I credit the community here–the inspiration, the knowledge base, the willingness to offer assistance, advise, a guiding hand–for bringing my skill levels up to my passion for the craft. Both of which, fortunately, keep increasing. U-Man, Orionid — watch your backs. 😉
Next week, “Apples vs. Oranges II”, is my two-year anniversary contest.
I really hope to be bringing my game. [fingers crossed].
//sorry for the segue. Sorry, too, if I spelled segue incorrectly. Every since the Segway, I always forget how to do it right.

ParticipantYeah, not really sure what to make of the monkey…
I can make a hat, or a broach or a pterodactyl…

ParticipantYoyo–I don’t mean to be mean-spirited, demented, immature, or malicious, but it has to be said (or I think so). If there were ever a reason for a ‘funny’ vote, it’s the recruiter shot from Arcelor Mittal. I’m sure she’s a very pretty girl–I can see that–but that makeup has. got. to. end. The penciled brows are not only uneven, but they’re a bit evil looking. The top lashes look like she’s on the Las Vegas Strip (and I don’t mean the burlesque), and this combines with a smile that says, “Yes, I hear you, but I’m ignoring you, you want me to hire you where?”
It got both the votes from me.

ParticipantFine work all around this week, and yes the lady recruiter was kind of startling to me as I scrolled down. Definitely made an impression. Kind of like those joke videos that went around that asked you to stare intently at the screen while they play.
So I’ve been watching the hopper, waiting for the bejeweled magic glove. Collecting the odd piece of gear here or the odd prop there. Formulating and scheming. I wake up this morning and BAM, all of the ones I’ve been stalking are on the list. Jebus, I have to get busy now.

😯
That’s what I made of it….
then a lot of this….
😆 😆 😆 😆
and I’m still like WTF?…that’s one crazy monkey!
As for fitting the theme, probably not, but I’m glad they posted it just because it’s so bizarre and a great moment to capture.
And then I saw Ennui’s post and laughed some more, thanks Farkers!
eta: Another one that threw me is the creepy butt shot of the 3 women… 🙄
Sorry, seems I’m a little emoticonal this morning… 😳
eta2: omg, now I just saw the one with the people in white in Japan, the lady and the chicken & the drag queen softball game. I need the emoti that’s smoking a doobie to properly express my feelings right now. 😆

ParticipantYeah, I was definitely hoping for a human-based contest, but I suppose I didn’t *exactly* specify that, so meh, we’ll let the voters choose. The one with the dog wasn’t what I was expecting either, but it’s blasting everyone out of the water in votes, so seems people like it.
February 2, 2012 at 5:15 pm #43536Kestrana
ParticipantI admit I voted for that one but it was mostly because of the story. It’s nice to see there are good people still in the world.

ParticipantYa know, I saw the guy with the love life sign over his head from probably a 1/4 mile away and went out of my way to cross paths with him even though it was not the way I had been walking that day. I sure am glad I stopped and talked to him for a few minutes as he had stopped there to have a bite to eat. He was a very nice fellow and was glad to have his picture taken. I am also glad I didn’t need any back story to get as many votes as it seems to be getting. Man o man is my voting finger gonna be sore when I get done.

Her eyes are absolutely bizarre in that shot and it’s wonderfully odd. In fact, I could see it working well as the starting image for a Photoshop contest. 🙂 I wouldn’t submit it without making sure Yoyo is OK with it, but I’m just saying…

I’m shocked to see it get so many votes. (I posted it because it was the only shot I had that fit the theme…and it was just cute enough that I didn’t think it would be embarrassing to post. 😕 )
Yugoboy’s Artist, U-man’s Dad & Daughter, and Kestrana’s Sunset Viewer are my favorites and far, far superior photos…

Same here. What she said. Although, I suppose if one went to a fark party one actually could shoot fark voters…with a Canon…or a Nikon.
Ba-Dum Tsssshhh. Thank you. Tip your waitress.
