ParticipantI’m presuming the idea is the same region. For (my) example, “things to see and do around Sacramento”.
So my pictures would then be different things, but all things in the area. Say, within 20 minutes drive from someone’s hotel. *drive time is arbitrary, it’s just what I’m doing, approximately

ParticipantI planned to do the same for Tulsa, but Snowpacalypse 2011 pretty much put an end to that. The kids have been out of school for 5 days now and we’ve got another 6-10″ forecast for tonight/tomorrow.
So, it’s back to the archives for me and likely multiple destinations instead of just one.

ParticipantI’m not using three pictures from the same place but I am using 3 pictures of highly iconic places that everyone should recognize without captions.
Originally I’d the idea that all three images would be things that would appear on the same travel brochure, but I’m not going to hold anyone to that, esp. as it’s nearly impossible to get three posts grouped together anyway to provide that context to the voters.

Participant1) I am posting 3 images from the same area.
2) Others here seem to be liking the idea of posting 3 images from the same area.
3) As the theme originator, I’d like to see 3 images from the same area, and that was the general idea when I originated the theme as “Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, etcetera.”
4) A travel brochure will generally have several images from the same area.…but you are free to post images from 3 different places across the globe, if that’s what you’ve got. Just don’t blame me if the voter’s don’t warm up to them.

bugger.
so much for plan B…February 8, 2011 at 10:46 pm #37318Elsinore
KeymasterThere’s honestly no way of knowing what will trip the voters’ triggers. Since, as ravnostic pointed out, it will be difficult to get all three photos grouped together unless we went with three photos in the same post, then context will be lost anyway, and they’re probably more likely to evaluate individual photos on their own merits rather than each Farktographer’s group of photos as a cohesive whole. In general, if we want the photos evaluated for the cohesive whole, then we should go to posting all three in the same post. However, I think at this point for this theme, we should leave it be, particularly as a number of people will not be expecting a requirement that all three photos be from the same city or region.
For my part, this is probably going to be an archive dive for me, as I’m not sure I’ll get a chance to get out tonight or tomorrow (and tomorrow’s supposed to be crappy weather anyway). In that case, I’m likely to post three from the same region but possibly not from the exact same city. But either way, I’ll almost certainly vote for any photo I could envision on a travel brochure regardless of whether the other photos from that Farktographer came from the same place or not.

Participant..Are you Italian? Do you have connections? Maybe it’s a sign you shouldn’t look…I don’t want to swim with da fishes…
I aint sayin nuttin.
Except that it was worth the wait for that 😆
Thanks for the link CauseISaidSo. After an Adobe and windows update and two reboots, it still freezes my browser. If I did know someone from the “Legitimate Businessmen’s Social Club”, somebody might get whacked 👿February 9, 2011 at 5:17 am #37321U-Man
ParticipantI knew I shoulda looked here sooner. For whatever reason, I thought the the three pics had to be from different brochures. Don’t ask me why…
So is it OK to use pics from three different regions?
If not, I have three regional one that will work. But if it’s kosher, two other ones are probably better photos.

KeymasterIt’s kosher.

This thought crossed my mind, but in the past I’ve found resistance to the idea of 3 images in one post (or at least I disremember so), because people like their stats consistent with 3 posts each week. Then there could be 3 posts of 3 images, but getting 9 shots in a week seems to be a bit much, in my mind.
A lot of non-regulars barely manage to even post one picture with any ease, let alone post 3 in the same panel. Love the idea; but it seems like a logistical nightmare that would throw people off.

On another front, there’s nothing wrong in the rulebook about resizing an image down to, say 320×240 and then posting at 640×480, is there?

Intentional pixelization?

Kinda. Giving it a 1960’s travel brochure quality, a ‘printed copy’ feel. (I hope). But that might translate into ‘cartoonish’, by f’tog standards. I can, of course, post them full[er] quality, if that’s the call.
Example:
Not much different from what a cell phone of 5 years ago would capture, except I took it with a DSLR.

KeymasterYeah the issues brought up with 3 photos in 1 post are a lot of why we haven’t done that very often (I think only once ever?). As for intentionally uprezzing small photos, I don’t think that’s problematic.
