ParticipantThat’s really cool, kind of makes me wish I had a dog, my cat isn’t too interested in this sort of thing.

ParticipantI should probably know this by now, but what’s the rule on B&W conversions? A lot of the stuff I shoot (usually burlesque, but a band in this case), makes heavy use of red spots, which make for crappy color, but really nice B&W.
I know the rules say to avoid using selective coloring, but what about the entire image?

ParticipantOooooh… samples?
One of these days I need to take a passenger to either run the camera or drive while I stand up thru the sunroof… My wife simply won’t ride when she can fly (I prefer to see the scenery driving, myself)Rig up a mount and fire it with a remote?
That’s something I’ve thought of doing with my Jeep, using my fisheye on some long exposures. I’ve done it with the D90 sitting on the dash, but it’s not quite the same.

ParticipantDo you have a preference for bag type? Shoulder bags are smaller than backpacks, but after a few hours of walking around with one, your neck and shoulder may hate you. The sling bags are a nice compromise, and because I still love my Kata R-103, I’ll toss in a recommendation for their 3-n-1 bags:

ParticipantAnyone here doing it? I used to drive out every clear night away from the city lights of DFW to shoot, but put a halt on it until I could get a proper mount that could track accurately for more than 60 seconds, and replace my Rebel with something better suited to low-light conditions (not that it’s bad, just that I want better! 😉 ).
Now that I’ve found a place out in East Texas that should be relatively light pollution free, I’m planning to take a little different tact – my 10.5mm fisheye shooting straight up, and then layering the exposures. Hopefully the skies will be clear in a couple of weeks when I head down there.
I don’t do much night-time long-lens photography around Dallas since I had the police called on me for “spying in people’s windows”. Thank god for digital, or I’m sure I’d have spent the night in jail.

ParticipantOther than the dropping my D50 into water part, I can pretty much echo everything that orionid said, I love my D90,
The D50 still rides around in my bag, and gets secondary body duty, but the D90 and 35 f/1.8 are my primary body and lens now. And it may be too late, but that’s something else you should look into, canceling the 50mm and going with the 35. It’s about 50% more expensive that the 50, but will still auto focus on your D60, unlike the 50. And it really is capable of doing some nice portrait work. Not to mention you get the benefit of shooting at a normal focal length, as opposed to the 50’s 75mm equivalent.
*Disclaimer: I have both the 50 and the 35, and while the 50 is indeed a great lens, especially for around $100, I personally find the 35 to be a much more useful lens.

ParticipantAnd yes with a 80% viewfinder and a 180 degree diagonal view on the lens there are lots with my left hand fingers…..
For me with my Nikkor 10.5, it’s usually my feet. But damn can fisheyes be fun, and useful too, once you start to understand their strengths and weaknesses.

ParticipantI think the file size is somewhere around 180 mb, but most people tend to keep it closer to 100 to be safe since its a fuzzy limit.
Damn! Them’s some big pics! Oh wait, that’s millibits….Damn! Them’s some tiny pics!
I’m sure you meant kb, but I had to have a little fun.

ParticipantSo..You uhhh…ever think of building and selling this to those of not so handy with a soldering iron?
August 12, 2009 at 7:35 pm #239643Horn
ParticipantThey’re pretty bloody expensive too.
Yeah, there’s a reason that Nikon can charge 8,000 USD for the D3x and have people happy to pay it.

ParticipantI’ll pass of the BK, and ask for some nice themes for the 3.0 beta (I suck at configuring PHP).

ParticipantWhat I am curious about are duties or other cost that might be added in.
Thanks in advance.
JamieYou Canuckistanis have some weird tax laws, but I’m sure that it would be equivalent in reverse. Anyhow, here ya’ go, you might wanna give ’em a call and get a ballpark estimate.

ParticipantCool in theory and on paper; but my guess is that that’s just going to get really annoying when in the hands of some drunk chick at the bar or at a party. Like… really annoying.
Agreed.
Do you remember how bad it used to be to have to watch vacation slide shows?
Imagine that, times a thousand.
“Hey Bob, wanna see the pictures of my kid being born? Of my wife howling in pain? Of her gaping vagina with a head poking out? Turn off that, light will ya’?”

ParticipantJust keep in mind that “save for web” will strip EXIF data, so if that’s important for you, stick with “save as”.

ParticipantThis http://www.flickr.com/photos/3horn/3059811964/sizes/m/in/set-72157610106928956/ was the first shot of yours that I came across. Amazing capture
Yeah, that’s still one of my favorites. Back in the days of all green-box shooting, I think I’d had my D50 for about a month when I shot that. I’d love to make it back to Folsom some time, particularly now that I have a little better idea of what I’m doing.
