ParticipantAnd I don’t like blaise pictures with pretentious titles trying to be more than the sum of their parts.
“De gustibus disputandum non est” and all of that.
It’s the big reason I really don’t care about Farktography voting, for one thing.

ParticipantSo far, I’ve been fairly impressed by the Wacom Bamboo Capture. It supports the Mac OS X “Lion” gestures (multi-touch), and seems to be about the right size for me.
And for $80ish, the price is right.

ParticipantNiiiiiice.
Have you loaded linux yet? (obligatory 😉 )
Not yet. I’m still importing/organizing my photos. I plan to run at least one version in a virtual machine.

ParticipantVery low humidity and very low temperatures are a perfect mix for static electrical charges building up. It’s possible you’ve done yourself some damage via static shock. Have you tried resetting the firmware again post-update?

ParticipantThe promotional images are typically posed by the director with my lighting (usually two lights, since these are mostly halftoned in black and white for newsprint) on a black curtain.
The production images are pure stage lighting, no additions by me (with very, very rare exceptions like the “splash” image from “Octopus,” where I added a single flash.)

ParticipantOtherwise UVA, Richmond schools (JMU, RU, VCU) and DC schools (GMU, MMU, Georgetown) are all an hour-plus away, and VTech’s four hours away.
I thought JMU was closer to you than that, and they’ve got one heck of an arts department.
In any case, keep in mind that the students aren’t necessarily as far away as the college or university, and you’re likely to find at least a few commuters half the distance.

ParticipantI’ve had a ModelMayhem account for quite some time. Shot a few from there, but the flake factor is pretty darned high with many of the “internet models.” They’ll set up a shoot with you, and then just not show up – or call/text/e-mail five minutes after you were supposed to start to tell you that their grandmother died, or their sister got hit in the head with a golf club (one model used that one two days in a row with two different photographers…)
If you’re looking for volunteers for “real people” shoots, just ping the local college or university drama department and offer to trade some head shots for some modeling time. They make for more interesting “people” anyway:

(Courtney Weir, local actress)We just go to a local park or other outdoor venue, put up a couple of lights, and shoot. I rarely have issues with the local gendarmerie unless I’m in a Phoenix park, because they’re asshats and believe that anyone with a tripod is a “professional” and requires a permit – printed letter from the Film Office to the contrary.

ParticipantOther new stuff:
Venue 104 in Tempe, AZ is rehearsing for “TAPE.”
Actors Theatre of Phoenix is currently running “NEXT FALL.”
(Actors Theatre is currently having some financial difficulties – if you can, go see their shows. They’re always running good stuff…)

ParticipantOK, caradoc, I found a challenge for you: http://www.studioarthur.co.uk/
I don’t think the photography itself is as good as yours, but the recreations are pretty funny.
I shall have my wife come up with some suitable scenes for recreation.
