FWIW, this contest didn’t get picked up by Bibliostats.
November 22, 2017 at 7:57 pm #53975Choc-Ful-AParticipantFYI, if you use the “Go Deeper” option on the resulting image you can apply as many of your photos to the processed image in series. The initial step seems to set the tone for the transformation, but the subsequent layers really sharpen/focus whatever things the software started to bring out.

July 30, 2017 at 8:18 pm #53909Choc-Ful-AParticipantIf the photo I posted in the contest isn’t close enough to a traditional fire hydrant, please remove it. AFAIK it’s the equivalent as setup for use in/around a large warehouse.
November 7, 2013 at 4:47 am #52438Choc-Ful-AParticipantI’m an idiot, ignore that earlier post. 🙂
September 24, 2013 at 4:26 am #52370Choc-Ful-AParticipantI think you’re dealing with two separate issues.
1. Some of the Farktography pages work and some don’t. For instances clicking “Log in” on the Farktography Forums page and filling out the form fails consistently. But clicking to the “Home” page and logging in there works every time.
2. If you logins are timing out, that’s a cookie issue in your browser.
August 20, 2013 at 10:26 pm #52159Choc-Ful-AParticipantThis contest reminded me of an animation I made from a couple of photos awhile ago. Since it’s multiple photos combined into an animated GIF, it’s not eligible for the contest. But I wanted to post it here for your amusement. It’s a bunch photos I took from the passenger seat of a car driving through a tunnel in Yosemite.
July 24, 2013 at 9:32 am #52120Choc-Ful-AParticipantJust IMO obviously, but here goes…
The pattern above and to the left of the window (which I assume is a light in the ceiling) is distracting, since it has no reference in the rest of the photo. It feels like it’s encroaching and draws attention away from the main focus of the photo. So I’d probably crop it out. I’m assuming that you don’t want to edit it out of course. If that’s OK, then you could use Photoshop/GIMP/etc… to make the top consistent get rid of the distraction factor.
But assuming you did need to crop the top off then you could play around with cropping it just above or below the horizontal wood piece that looks like mini-crown molding. Then once that fixes the top, then take enough off the bottom to balance the composition.
One other thing to check, I looks like all the horizontal lines in the photo are slightly tilted. I’d try playing with rotating the photo making various horizontal parts perfectly flat to see which one I liked best. It think it might “feel” different if the top of the window was straight, versus if the line between the wood and steel was straight, versus if the bottom of the window was straight.
July 16, 2013 at 8:44 am #52094Choc-Ful-AParticipantThe 3rd photo is Pandora Box, a drag queen from the Ru Paul’s Drag Race content/reality-show. She’s has very good comedic timing, so I would think she’d make a good MC for an event like that.
July 11, 2013 at 10:24 am #51784Choc-Ful-AParticipantThat’s very, very obnoxious behavior IMO. 🙂 But it’s not my website so I’ll either deal with it or go someplace else.
July 11, 2013 at 6:33 am #51782Choc-Ful-AParticipantSomething odd is going on then… The URL that I uploaded into a posting didn’t work in a browser, but the Fark entry was still showing the image. Meaning one tab in a browser shows a broken image, and another tab with the Fark contest shows the entry with the image.
And yes, I should have checked the HTML carefully.
July 11, 2013 at 5:06 am #51780Choc-Ful-AParticipantI don’t think the images post with the original links, even before the contest goes live.
Here’s what leads me to believe that… I did the following, in this order a few days before the current contest went live.
1. upload an image to my hosting service (SmugMug)
2. post an entry in the Farktography contest using an image that was small enough that it didn’t need to be re-sized
3. discovered that I’d screwed up the entry and it looked terrible due to bad HTML
4. deleted the image from my hosting site, meaning the URL of the image in step #1 no longer worked
5. re-uploaded the images to SmugMug
6. posted a second entry to the Farktography contest using the step #5 image, again with an image that was small enough to post without re-sizing
Prior to the image caching changes that would have fixed the problem since Fark would detect that the first posting had a broken image reference and the entry would automatically be taken down.
However… The content entry persisted since the image was being served by Fark and not pulled from my hosting site. Which led to the embarrassing final step.
7. Post a note asking a moderator to help clean up the mess and delete the first entry with the broken HTML.
So IMO, if Fark was using the original image URL it would have noticed it was broken. But that didn’t happen. Which leads me to believe that aside from the initial pull from the image host, to get it to the Fark server, the contest don’t use the original hosting service and the entries are setup to reference the Fark local storage (or cache) from the very beginning.
July 9, 2013 at 8:07 am #51679Choc-Ful-AParticipantGot it. Alternatively, you can post in the Fark Farktography Forum ( http://www.fark.com/comments/7 )rather than the PSAEF or you can also pm me here or gmail me at farktographerelsinore. 🙂
Thanks! I used to do PS shops as often (or more) as I entered Farktography contests. So I was used to asking for help on the PSAEF, which is why I posted there.
There seem to be a lot more goofs on PS contests then in the Farktography ones. 🙂 I guess we’re more careful. 🙂
July 8, 2013 at 9:11 am #51676Choc-Ful-AParticipantI double-posted the photo that I meant as my first entry this week. I asked to have the entry timestamped 2013-07-06 12:56:25 AM deleted in the PSAEF. So it should get cleaned up before the contest goes live.
But I wanted to post here in case Elsinore of someone else with Fark moderator privs reads this first.
The changes to the way Fark handles posting are taking some getting used, at least for me… So I keep screwing up when submitting entries (and even just text comments). It’s like being a newbie all over again, woo!
July 8, 2013 at 9:04 am #51675Choc-Ful-AParticipantCan’t make up my mind for my third entry, any thoughts on the following:
Lake Lavon Sunset #2: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-CwiZhOZtgjo/Udl-jhbcETI/AAAAAAAASyI/UwPSi7PenHA/s1280/IMG_0842-Edit-Edit.jpgThat one’s my favorite, but I have never been able to figure out what Farktography voters value in an photograph. So it could easily be the one that will get the least votes. 🙂
