I haven’t been doing Farktography much at all because I’ve just been checked out mentally. Work changes and kids and all that. Add in that my pictures never seem to go very far and it became I wasn’t getting much out of it. I’m happy for you all that consistently do great and have all kinds of wins or high places. Honestly, I’m happy that you are great at your craft and it shows. I don’t think I’ll ever get there, and I’m not sure I want to. I take pictures because I want to, because I think macro shots are cool, and because I scrapbook heavily it seems and I have 14 scrapbooks for the last 7 years, nearly entirely devoted to the kids because I love looking back at old pictures and seeing what we did. Even if I don’t remember the outings or all the details, I know I was out with my family and I know we did things, we explored. I want my kids to have that, and I like doing it.
As for garnering participation, what if there was a reminder post somewhere on Facebook or on Fark at the beginning of the week just for discussion of it, what the next theme will be so those who are thinking about participating might go out and take something instead of coming to the thread on Wednesday night/Thursday morning and realizing they don’t have anything that will work. After the weekend, who really remembers? What if the day of the contest starting was changed? When is traffic generally heavier on Fark? Would putting Farktography on that day help?
I honestly don’t go to Fark much anymore, but that’s because I’m trying to limit distractions for work. Working from home has its drawbacks, and easy distractions is one of them.
