In the age of instagram and countless phone photography apps, our puritan rules regarding processing are going to be the downfall of Farktography. If participation is what we are after I suggest we do away with the processing restrictions, let folks go hog wild and let the voters decide.
We already HAVE Photoshop contests! 😛
I am not going to throw rocks in a glass house since my own participation is WAY down. This is mostly because I haven’t been shooting much at all for months, and months, and months and months. (Got a lotta crap going on in my life, still).
I suggest two things, first we DO relax our rules more frequently, not ALL the time, but every other theme or so. We could call it Hard Core Farktography or something like that when we say, what is the kids call it #nofilter? Second, rather than keeping theme submission and voting here in our private garden, open it up to Fark as a contest itself and let regular Farkers submit and vote on themes. Take the top five or ten and run those and then do it again.
Fark is cliqued and clannish, and we are no better. If we want new blood, we are going to need let the new kids in the lunch room sit at our table.
January 19, 2014 at 12:32 am #52688ennuipoetParticipantEls, I need a Mod call on my image in this thread (http://www.fark.com/comments/8104862?startid=88783769&fpost=Pxn1Fce21EE._._zV._PKkb291AtWcXoZky3P9w8EudyM96AN2c#c88792557)
I know poop is Verboten in normal threads, and this is clearly poop, but it is artistic poop, with rich contrasty blacks and crisp whites, and clearly not intended for prurient stimulation. If I can say that a Mod, such as yourself, reviewed and OK’s the entry it could head off trouble.
Of course, if it IS too poopy, then kill it.
OK thx Bye!
January 18, 2014 at 1:40 am #52686ennuipoetParticipantWe need a Boobies in this thread. (Honestly, when don’t we need boobies, nahwhamsayin?)
December 22, 2013 at 2:21 pm #52574ennuipoetParticipantNow this is a theme I can get behind, in front of, under, on top, to either side of. I guess what I am saying is a really like booze.
November 21, 2013 at 12:18 am #52528ennuipoetParticipantThe way I figure it, until I get a W9 from a publisher for contracted services rendered, AND my photography starts bringing in more than I spend, then I’ll be a pro. Until then, I’m an artist with a professional acumen.
Nice stuff up there. I love that first one and can easily see how it would pop on metallic.
Hmmm, by those standards I guess I am Pro. I figure I brought in this year alone to pay for all the money I’ve put into my current gear. Of course, I needed every dime of that to live on, so I didn’t reinvest in gear. Hopefully next year.
November 17, 2013 at 2:19 pm #51806ennuipoetParticipantHeh, I was searching the library for shots for next week and started thinking about how I never shoot HDR any more. Then, I started comparing those I did shoot:
This is deep HDR Hole 2010
And this was this Summer using HDR to try and capture the actual light in this shot:
My aesthetic has changed a bit.
I almost most never use HDR, but when I do, I use Photomatix Pro
/The World least interesting photographer.
November 16, 2013 at 4:36 am #52524ennuipoetParticipantA pro? That is just a person who does something for money. An Artist makes things people WANT to buy.

No, wait, never mind, you got it.
Guess I won’t get no stitches.
September 30, 2013 at 11:52 pm #52383ennuipoetParticipantIt’s a nice feeling ain’t it CiSS? 🙂
September 6, 2013 at 10:41 pm #52348ennuipoetParticipantMmmm, nice. I am torn between the 7D and a 5D (the 6D is out for many reasons, not the least of which is the lack of high speed sync). I will likely wait until I can afford the 5D, or buy used.
Still, I used the 7D not long ago and fell in love with it.
September 6, 2013 at 10:40 pm #52262ennuipoetParticipantOnly issues I’ve had were with a crazy duck lady at the park around the corner. She’s shouted at me a couple times not to take photos of her. Keep biting my tongue instead of responding with something nasty about wanting to find better subjects to photograph than her ugly mug.
Hah! That reminds me. I was out shooting one beautiful evening, waiting for the light to get right on a street near my apartment. I was metering the shot, as a jogger entered the frame. I put the camera down, and he turned and shouted “Hey! How would you like it if I took a picture of you!”
I said “Sure, you have a camera did you want to use mine!”
He called me several bad names and jogged off. I was perplexed as to what happened. It didn’t dawn me until later that he thought I was shooting HIM and was trying to be a dick. My reply completely infuriated him.
That made the whole thing even better.
September 4, 2013 at 11:14 am #52252ennuipoetParticipantI was doing some street work one evening a few years ago in my neighborhood. (Primarily immigrants from the Dominican Republic) Suddenly an older man, probably in his 60’s runs up and grabs the lens and starts tugging on the straps screaming at me in Spanish. I do not speak Spanish. I grabbed both of his wrists and stopped him from pulling on the lens and stared at him, he is screaming at me people are staring. Finally after a couple of minutes, I let get of his wrists and hit both of his arms as hard as I could. He let go, I tucked the camera under my arms and walked off.
I have no idea what I did to make him mad, all I know is he wasn’t going to break my camera.
I still don’t shoot much in my neighborhood since then, when I do I shoot from the hip on a wide angle or shoot on a rangefinder.
I’ve had a couple of security guards tell me to stop taking photos of bridges and what not, but I basically ignore them. If they want to call the cops, they are welcome, I could use the settlement money from the lawsuit.
August 31, 2013 at 3:58 pm #52239ennuipoetParticipantOK, Three things:

Looking forward to photos.August 18, 2013 at 12:06 am #47086ennuipoetParticipantennuipoet, I’ve noticed that some of the icons and stuff doesn’t work well in IE, at least IE9. Going to try to do some custom css stuff to get those working, will share the fixes if you wish.
thanks orionid!
My big problem is a I run a wordpress install in a subdirectory with my blog, so if I have to do a multiple install in the Root and make that work. It can be done no problem, just have to get around to doing it.
