Well I learned 2 new things today. I had never heard of this type of camera lens before and It seems you all have had no luck with them So I won’t think to hard about getting one If the chance pops up.

Not saying that good ones don’t exist, they might. Never pursued it.
(I got me a Tokina 150-500mm f/5.6 AT-X adapted to Canon and never looked back).

Similar to caradoc, got one many moons ago during 35mm film days, could not make it work, thought it was me, tried it again in a digital body and it turns out it wasn’t me.

“All courses taught by professional photographers”,…

I guess if you get __any money__ at all for what you do, you _are_ a professional.

On a lighter and more thread related note,..

Rav, is that a green laser back lighting (and bleeding through the peel of) the orange for “In orchards no one can hear you scream” ?

Meant to ask this yesterday but forgot.

I tend to heartily agree with ‘Cuda, Kes and Orion on this. The last three charted themes on Bibliostats were all difficult to interpret as funny. Bacon was probably the last clearly “funny” goal. The voting for both Bacon and AvO went the same, WAY below average. Likely due to funny votes robbing best (as noted by ‘Cuda).

The PS community does not have a long term tracking mechanism like Bibliostats do they? This may be one reason they seem ambivalent. They may not realize the impact the system is having on them.

So far the only reported feedback from Drew that I remember didn’t indicate much concern over the two button scheme, but was more about the bug/hack of vote losses. Does anyone know something different about his take on this?

In my fackback I asked “Is there anything that can be done besides live with it?”. I’ve not had a response. It looks like “living with it” may not be an option if it’s going to kill part of the magic.

U-Man, thought you’d like to know that my non-sports-loving wife instantly picked up on the Ali posed Apple and Orange. Well done sir, well done.

Thanks! That really means a lot. I wasn’t sure if *ahem* normal people would get it.

Mopsy and Fluffybunny, the bleeding (juicing?) orange is one of my favs too. Really, really clever AND well executed.

Agreed. I couldn’t see that one last night since images from photobucket are blocked at work.

U-Man and Fluffybunny, I’ve been waiting for a good time to use a real-thread example in my farkback about the voting things. Would either of you mind if I used your performances this week as an example where the voting result could be considerably different with only one vote button?

NOT AT ALL! I assume you mean that fluffy’s lead in the “Funny” category would make things much closer, if not place his photo first,. In a theme like this, funny should weigh a lot more than it does. If anything, the ‘Funny’ button likely steals “real” votes from a pic like Fluffy’s. It probably affected the Bacon theme too. Go get ’em.

Orionid you go right ahead if you please. I was thinking the exact same thing but already blew my farkback wad (two in short succession probably not very nice).

Thanks for the praise Uman, means a lot coming from talent such as yours. Although as is your “normal”, you zigged when we all zagged (with coexist). Brilliant.

CISS, thanks. I’m still thinking about how you would have done Apocalypse Now.

Fluffbunny, thanks for sharing how you made the gun hole fountain. This morning I made Mr. Mopsy bring his morning coffee to the computer while we looked at everyone of the photos. Being an engineer, he was interested in the workings of your orange. He also made the comment that I was part of a really strange group. But we all know that already!!! 😉

Most welcome, pretty low tech really. That’s where I tend to gravitate any more if I can. Keeps it simple.

He’s just now finding out you run with a strange crowd? We’re those people you never want your real friends to meet.

/Heh. RadioShack. “Can I interest you in some batteries to go with that, uhhh…… whatever it is you’re buying?”

I hear you brother, been saying similar things for some time.

The most important word you wrote IMHO was “abstract”. Abstractions are powerful tools: math, engineering, software and so on, but we’ve taken them too far (like we always do).

Money is an abstraction. You can abstract work, food, clothing, shelter and people away with it. Once you don’t have to do something hard or dirty or hot, once you don’t have to look the guy your firing in the eye it all becomes easier.

There is a term we use around here in our philosophizing; “intellectual laziness”. It’s when you take the easy way instead of putting forth the mental effort needed by some scenario. It is one of the contributors to the market crash. Some guy wrote a fancy program that a bank used as part of their analysis for investment risk. It worked so well other banks wanted it, so they sold it along with the instructions to use as part of the analysis. Their customers “just wanted a number to tell us if it was OK or not”. Soon everyone was relying on an unrealistic number out of intellectual laziness. You know the rest of the story.

Another example: Let’s say there’s a work rule that says “if you are using a pencil, you must wear stabbing protection so you don’t hurt yourself with the pencil”. The intellectually lazy CEO will be too important or busy to figure out for himself whether a worker he sees is supposed to have stabbing protection on, so he modifies the rule to be “every one must where stabbing protection”, even if they’re illiterate. Now the CEO can cover his ass with little to no effort.

Gah, enough late night ranting I guess.

I was really fortunate to get my Dollar store’s last 3 inch AR-15.

/Not a sentence I could have ever predicted writing.

How did you do the streams of juice coming out of the ventilated orange? That really blew me away (pun intended).

Tiny tubing and a syringe full of Sunny Delight.

I gotta give you guys props–because apparently, you will take them and make really cool pictures. I dig all the shots with mini weapons. On monday I tried to see if Dollarama had any bags of weapons, or maybe really cheap action figures with fruit-sized weaponry. I had to settle for an assortment of googly-eyes. At no point, until I saw the thread tonight, did it occur to me to take a pen and draw faces on. That sound you hear now is me banging my head against the wall.

Yay Canon! I bought a rear LCD for my 20D and tore down the camera myself to replace it. $100.
Their excuse about “complicated technology” is just that, an excuse.

/Hoping Canon does not follow Nikon’s lead on this one.

I’ve bought a few things from them (umbrellas, stands, triggers).

If not them the big two (adorama or b&h)
