ParticipantI never thought I would miss the likes of ArkieBoy. It would have taken him no more than ten minutes of the new voting system to photoshop a retarded kid faceraping the funny button in front of a crowd of cheering people.
Wishing for a funny vote button right here, right now.
Not really, but that was funny.
Also sent a stern but polite farkback.
Used the topic of “recipes” so it may get to the wrong people.
Then again maybe there are no wrong people.fluffybunny
ParticipantI have been firmly entrenched in the DIY build camp since 1991, however as many
of you know, if you leave the camp for a year, little of what you knew remains relevant
besides very basic skills.Having said that, last September when I jumped at a 7D body at price you still can’t get
the 25 megabyte images were too much for my two year old system. I asked a friend
who stays closer to “the camp” than me and he pointed me here:
http://www.pcmag.com/slideshow/story/278424/Build-a-Mean-Productivity-Machine-for-Under-$1KI used this as a basis for parts selection and am quite pleased. Running Win7 64 bit.
If anyone wants the specific part numbers, post the request here and I will follow up.fluffybunny
ParticipantCISS, I like your thinking (one of the greatest war movies of all time).
Got three in the can as of today.
There was a lot of carnage (herbage?) but in the end they are all in a better place,… MAH BELLY./moar greatest war movies, Private Ryan, Full Metal Jacket, and so on.

ParticipantAhhh yes, one of the very reasons I heart my Canon. I can use old Nikon lenses with little more than a $20 brass adapter.
A few of my favorites (either Nikon or M42 mounts):
Soligor 135mm f2.0 prime
Vivitar Series 1 90mm f2.5 macro with matching tube (came with the protective peel away sheeting on the aluminum)
Micro-NIKKOR 55mm f2.8 macro
NIKKOR-O 35mm f2 primeFebruary 7, 2012 at 4:36 pm in reply to: First production light field cameras arrive next year #41695fluffybunny

ParticipantSo how long has Farktography been the Old Nuke’s Home? 😆
…at least if I get drunk and start talking DNPs and skew divergence a few people won’t think I’m insane…
I thought there was just Orionid and myself, but three out of maybe thirty regulars,… more than coincidence?

Participant… but was still better than the mythical WIAS.
That one is lost on me.
Yeah me too, class of ’83 here so must be something the younger nukes are hearing. Only other one I can remember is RTFQ.
Wrong Initial A-School. It was reserved for horrendous GCE’s. Like the guy in week ten of ET school who still didn’t know Ohms Law.
Yikes! I’m a chemist and even I know Ohm’s law. It’s the one that states:
“A man’s ohm is his castle.” right?February 7, 2012 at 12:14 am in reply to: First production light field cameras arrive next year #41683fluffybunny

ParticipantFarktographer wrote:Sooo…… I’m going to go ahead and assume a field used as parking for things like state fairs, flea markets, etc are kosher, but what about a field where farmers park their old cars to die?
Edit to add: This isn’t the one I’m considering, but it’s very similar. Lots of cars, but nowhere near junkyard level.
Let’s go with the Wikipedia definition on this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parking_lot
“A parking lot (Commonwealth English: car park), also known as car lot, is a cleared area that is intended for parking vehicles. Usually, the term refers to a dedicated area that has been provided with a durable or semi-durable surface.”
With that in mind, I’d think an empty parking garage fits the definition more than an old field where people tend to abandon cars. Love the shot, but I’m struggling with whether or not it feels “right” in the theme. Anyone else have a say? I’m willing to lighten up the reigns, but I don’t want it to fall apart into people taking photos of their garage or something.
My take on the theme [FWIW] is that the challenge is to take the mundane and make it beautiful, in this case the “car park”. While I like Orionid’s shot (and am a sucker for old machinery, cars especially) I don’t see the subject as mundane, therefore out of bounds. [/FWIW]

ParticipantI could be very wrong here but I’ve always assumed (since I first heard of this stuff) that they were just using shallow depth of field and varying the focus over rapid image samples, ie maybe a video type processing/sensor arrangement and a standard lens. Would that not achieve the same thing?
As previously stated, could be a huge GCE on my part and I don’t have time to research it.fluffybunny
ParticipantI was bummed that I’d used my favorite bus shot already in a B&W contest.

ParticipantOk, here’s how to make a pin-hole camera:
Thanks for the explanation, Yoyo, maybe I can try that method.
kestrana: from Amazon: “It assembles in less than one hour without tools or glue.” Which, in my case, would mean 4 hours with it still not being right. 😆
For those of you with small budgets and little time, this is where I got what I’m going to use:

ParticipantFine work all around this week, and yes the lady recruiter was kind of startling to me as I scrolled down. Definitely made an impression. Kind of like those joke videos that went around that asked you to stare intently at the screen while they play.
So I’ve been watching the hopper, waiting for the bejeweled magic glove. Collecting the odd piece of gear here or the odd prop there. Formulating and scheming. I wake up this morning and BAM, all of the ones I’ve been stalking are on the list. Jebus, I have to get busy now.

I know, these are starting to get played out, but here you go.Notice the Bald Guy @ 2:16 with the long lens who’s having trouble with recoil? He forgot the rules of photography:
1) Take a deep breath, let it out and squeeze the trigger.
2) The camera is always loaded.
3) Never point a camera at something you don’t intend to shoot. -
