Thanks anneb! I took quite a few pics of those koi thinking the whole time that I’d end up in the pond among them. I still don’t know how I managed to stay ashore. (I’m not terribly well-balanced. Ahem.)

I also fell for U-man’s cropped shot when I first looked at it. And laughed when I looked at the original. I thought it captured the spirit of these week’s theme very nicely.

Still a DSLR novice, but for what’s it worth…

I have an Olympus which I bought earlier this year after reading some great reviews about it. It is a good camera – light weight, good feel in my (medium sized) hands, good pictures, good features, good price. It also tolerates some banging around if that’s a concern for you (I try, but am a bit of a klutz.)

I’m relatively happy with my purchase and very, very glad I have both lenses. In fact, my only regret is the limited number of lenses available for the Olympus. Where can you find the adapter you mention?

Otherwise, I’m quite pleased with it.

Oh, and for me, the 17-45 lens only would be too limiting, so I’m glad I bought the kit with both lenses.

I spent Sunday afternoon running round Forts Foote and Washington – both off of Indian Head Hwy a bit south of the beltway. Fort Foote is the smaller of the two and mostly ruins. I didn’t spend too much time there, but got some nice fall foliage shots and lovely crumbly ruins. I also took pics of the cannons. Didn’t see many people there at all.

Similarly, Fort Washington was not crowded. Many opportunities for oh-so-cliche shots, but it’s awfully darned scenic. And, lots of crumbly, paint-peely history and bonus lovely Potomac vistas (including a view of DC and the new Wilson Bridge). Curious what I found? I second linguine’s idea. It’s a good way for us relative newbies to participate in the past contests… adds and extra contest a month without being overwhelming and is perfect in every way.

I’m the second person to vote for “mmm-tasty” also because I couldn’t help myself. I’m ascared when I find people who think the way I do before I do. Oh. And, damn you. 😉
I’m partial to the Wednesday contests – but would love an occasional second contest (maybe not every week). I’d like to have the weekend to shoot both photos though – so prefer any days except Sat and Sun. All easy to say for me since all I do is show up and post.
